We go today for Paige's hearing test at 1pm. I am super nervous. Praying so hard. I just really hope that in the least we get the results quickly and Paige tolerates the test well. Evie's been sick with a fever since yesterday morning so I already hate to leave her too Praying for good news but also for the strength to accept whatever comes.

Update: The results of the test were "inconclusive, but not encouraging" There was only one audiologist there and Paige fought the test and the audiologist like a spartan. They pretty much confirmed our pedi's suspicion. She *can* hear, but just not convinced she can hear that well. We have a long history on both sides of degenerative hearing loss so there is cause for concern. Unfortunately we weren't able to test for fluid because she would not cooperate. She FREAKED when they even got close to her face. So we have to go back in 2 weeks to try with a team of pediatric audiologists. She responded to the rock concert loud male baritone voice. with her left side, but nothing else. The audiologist sat us down after the testing and explained that if the next session is inconclusive or gives them "discouraging" results she will have to go to Childrens and be sedated for a complete evaluation. The idea of sedation PETRIFIES me, even more than the hearing issues!!!!!!!!!!!!! I asked if it had to be done right now, and he explained in short YES! If it's something they can fix they wanna do it right away you don't want it to get worse etc. My paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother both had hearing aids etc. as kids from a physical ear defect so they also want to scan for that as well. I asked about fluid in the ears. and the response was "The presence of sterile fluid is a possibility but I am not convinced it is the sole reason for her impairment" Then he handed us a book of ASL signs to start using with her. I explained I am fluent and we use a few already with the girls. So now we wait again. We go about our day as usual, implementing more signing into our routine, but still keeping our routine. We're back on the 26th to fish for more answers. I asked the audiologist at the end what our chances were with completing the test next visit, and if he thought we could avoid sedation and he said "highly unlikely, but I am sure I can get her seen very quickly after our next appointment to get the comprehensive exam done." So there we stand. Still with many unanswered questions.

I know it's scary but you can handle it. If the sedation is like I think it will be it's not bad. They boys have both been sedated for dental work and it was very easy and smooth. Zakkary actually didn't fall asleep either time but just laid there peacefully watching a movie.

Proactive is the way to go. It's better to know there is a problem now vs down the road. Keep me updated and if you need to talk about it let me know. I'm going through very similar stuff right now.

Jenna, I am so sorry they couldn't give you answers. Not knowing is almost worse than knowing. I will have my fingers crossed for you that they can figure it out without sedation. If they do have to sedate I am sure it will go smoothly but I get why u are scared of it. Hugs Jenna, will keep you in my thoughts

Aww, I'm sorry hun. Sedation scares me silly too. My kids had to go under for dental work and those were the worst days of my life. But they were absolutely fine and it needed to be done. Paige needs this to be done too. And there are so many advances in pediatric care that there very well could be be a corrective surgery for Paige. Just take it one day and one test at a time. ((((hugs)))))

I am so sorry Jenna that you did not get all the answers after all the worry it is causing you! It is scary to sedate our kiddos, we did it for an endoscopy with Owen and I cried like a baby the whole time. He was fine though, and we got some good answers from doing it. Proactive is a hard road to go, but worth it in the long road. Just repeat that to yourself! Big hugs to you!

Hugs Jenna, I will be praying for you and hoping for the best. I also hope that Paige cooperates to avoid sedation.
It is a good thing that you are fluent in ASL. This would make an easier transition on you as a family if you get bad results. Hugs.. Waiting is very hard. You are such a strong person!
