DF just called to inform me that one of his co-workers son has had body lice for the past 2-3 weeks!!! They thought he had poison ivy and after treating it (just over the counter stuff) and it not going away he was finally taken to the doctor today and received that diagnosis!! I know this is something that happens and kids get it from school and is really sometimes just unavoidable but it just makes me itch! To think that DF works with the dad and he has been in our truck and he sometimes takes the dad to pick up the boy (dad doesn't have a license), etc and has been exposed to this and could bring it home at any time just gives me the creeps! No body in my house is itching or anything but you better believe as soon as I got that phone call I jumped up and stripped our beds and threw everything in the wash!
Any btdt mom's had to deal with lice?? Gosh I hope I never have to!
Thank you Quantum_Leap for my fabulous signature!!!
I hate to admit this, but I had to deal with the situation you just described about 10 years ago when I lived in England. (Is body lice the same thing as scabies? Scabies is what I had.) I'm pretty sure a co-worker transmitted it. I had zero contact with little kids but a day or two after I spoke to her and another coworker about it she suddenly announced that her nephews had it and that she must have passed it from me to them. I think she was fibbing and that it was the other way around. It was horrible - especially because I had no clue what was going on and suffered before finally going to the doctor. They get under your skin. BLECH!!!! If I remember correctly I had to coat my whole body with some sort of liquid goop from the doctor. I don't really recall having to boil my clothes or anything like that though. I wonder why. Hopefully you guys will all be fine and not affected.
OH MY GOSH! Chris's coworker and close friend was diagnosed last week with body lice too. Since he's a flier he had to go to the doctors to get it diagnosed. I have been skeeved out ever since.

Hilary, scabies and lice are completely different.. in fact scabies are more contagious than lice..scabies are really small mites that burrow under your skin, especially in areas like between fingers/toes..its SO contagious.. if someone came into our office with scabies we had to scrub down the entire room. the only way to get rid of it is to litterally put this cream on your entire body from hairline down to toes, sleep with it on, and then wash in the morning.
As for lice, I havn't had to deal with it---yet.. but I have a school aged kid so we get those letters sent home once in a while.. best thing to do is check hair lines, behind ears, at the nape of the neck to look for it..they sortof look like dandruff but when you try to take them off they stick. Might want to keep some OTC lice medication in your cubbard.
Nope we haven't dealt with this yet. But I do remember getting home from school once in high school and my parents were home with my sister. Every window in the house was open and there were about a million loads of laundry waiting to be folded. She managed to get head lice and my parents were cleaning like CRAZY so no one else would get infected.
