He's had a cold and then Saturday he started running a temp of 101 and being super fussy. I talked to the on call pedi yesterday and told her we just went through this same thing a month ago. He got a cold, which turned into a fever and an ear infection. She said well I'll call him in an antibiotic but you need to bring him in on Monday to be seen. I have to drive 30 miles to pick up the meds so I decided to save a trip today and just go to Urgent Care. The Urgent Care doc said it was definitely an ear infection and gave him Omnicef since he just finished a round of Augmentin.

Well he doesn't want it. He spits it everywhere. He's taking 3 ml twice a day and I figure he's spitting back at least 1 ml each time. Any tips on getting it down him?

Poor little guy! I don't have tips, Addisyn doesn't like medication either but she's never spit it back out. Could you mix it with a spoonful of apple sauce? Gosh, I just don't know? Good luck and hope he feels better soon.

Are they flavoring the meds? Any antibiotic that Abri has taken has been a strawberry or banana flavor. Our pharmacy automatically does it. I'd talk to your pharmacist to see if they have any suggestions. Sometimes milk does a good job of disguising a bad taste

Jed always swallowed the omnicef - but I think they flavored it at the pharmacy. I will warn you - I think omnicef is the medicine that made Jed's poop tomato red. If I hadn't been warned - I would have thought it was blood! Apparantly it is a common side effect of omnicef.

We have to mix anything Peyton takes with a full glass of milk and hope she drinks it all down! It will sometimes take the first half of the day to get down one dose because she won't finish the glass so we put it in the fridge and give her the rest in a few hours and then do the same thing the other half of the day with the second dose. She REFUSES to take medicine and I've tried so many things. Hold her down and shove it in, she spits it out; put it with applesauce and she eats 2 bites and catches on to the trick and refuses to eat anymore; put it in ice cream and she still can taste it and then won't eat ice cream at all for about a month. The ONLY way she will take it is in milk! It's definitely frustrating so I feel your pain!!

Yep, it did that to Audrey too!!

Audrey really liked the omnicef... the only thing I can say is to push it in the back of his cheek in small amounts... You could try maybe putting it in some applesauce too.. Need to check with a pharmacist though before mixing it with stuff, the properties might be different in liquids than in pills.. but I know most antibiotic pills you can mix with stuff like applesauce..
