Do you give your LO what you decide is an appropriate portion for them or do you keep giving them more food until they refuse to eat anymore?

I give Kinley & Karsyn the same amount at each meal. Karsyn can out eat Kinley anyday! (kinley's food of choice is salad and celery! LOL crazy 4 yr old!) anyways, if Karsyn wants more, I'll give her more. She's at a stage right now where she'll take a few bites of one thing and be done. For example, I made pork chops, mac n cheese, mashed potatoes and peas the other night...she ate a couple of bites of pork chops, all the mashed potatoes and all the mac n cheese....she didn't want to eat all her pork chop and once she's done, she hands me her plate and says "Down" to get out of the high chair lol. Every once in a while, after she gives me her plate, I can put a bite of whatever on her fork and she'll eat it.

If Peyton eats everything that's on her plate and wants more she says "more" and I give her more. If she's full whether there's anything on her plate or not she just hands me her plate or says "no" if I'm feeding her and she doesn't want anymore.

I give my kids small portions. Tonight we are doing pork chops, mashed potatoes, green beans, and apple sauce. They will get a little bit of everything. I give them a serving size of each thing. Then when they eat the little bit that is on their plate they can ask for more of the things that they really like. My dd loves applesauce, but hates pork chops. I will tell her if she eats her pork chop then she can have more apple sauce. If I know I am making something that one of them doesn't really like I will make sure to make something that they love, so I can bribe them into eating all of their food. Lol.

I portion it out first and then if either girl wants more after they've finished, then I give out some more.

This sounds like my girls. They start out with about the same portion. Lily eats like a bird and Abri can devour hers in a minute. On good nights, Abri will eat and I'll give her more if she asks for more. She usually slides her plate over to me and says "Moooore!" There are nights when she's just worn out and will only eat a few bites before she has a melt down and starts throwing her plate and food.

If he cleans his plate, you could just offer a little bit more. If he eats that keep offering until he stops.

My girls are like Dondra and Courtney's girls. Kaija has gotten ridiculously picky and it makes dinnertime insanely stressful even getting her to eat things we KNOW she likes. Kolbie will eat anything we put in front of her! But I give them both the same thing and the same amounts of it, Kolbie will clear her plate and we have to negotiate terms with Kaija to get her to eat anything.

Alex doesn't tell me if he wants more or if he is done by using words. I take his plate from him if he throws his stuff like his food, spoon, or cup. If he eats most of his food then I offer him some more. Sometimes he eats everything on his plate but one group, and I just offer him some other food incase he just didn't like whatever it was he didn't eat. I would just offer him a little extra before you take his plate to see if he is still hungry, or if maybe there is one thing in particular that he wants more of.

Ditto the other ladies. I portion it and then if they want more then I let them have more.

I usually give her a portion. Livi doesn't really talk either. But she does do the sign for more and she says "uh uh uh" over and over when she wants something.

Livi is very particular, I wouldn't say picky..but sometimes she'll eat a food and other times refuse it. She knows what she wants and when she wants it. Sometimes she'll eat everything and ask for more, other times I will give her the same food and she'll freak out and start throwing it off her highchair in a melt down. Sometimes I have to give her one food at a time because she will focus on only one of the foods, even though I know she likes the other one.. my child is high maintenance lol

Michael does the same things as Livi!

I guess part of the reason i'm asking also is because Michael will eat things like goldfish or crackers ALL DAY if i let him, so i guess i'm asking as far as snakcs too. I dont know if he just wants more bec/ he wants it or if he's actually still hungry?

Sam, Jed is doing that same thing with snacks. He will eat crackers, fruit snacks, goldfish all day and keep asking for a "nack." But at dinner or lunch he won't really eat. So I've started offering "mealtime" foods for snacks. Or I save his plate and if after dinner he asks for a snack I give him his dinner food.

But I give him more if he wants it - he just really hasn't wanted more lately.

Jaxon gets tired of snacks and wants real food. He gets furious with us if we don't feed him food when he says eat. He will throw the snacks on the floor or push it away.

I think he is having a growth spurt atm.
