Was a HUGE hit!

I bought the book kit at Target while shopping today, knowing the cartoon would be on CBS tonight. I gave it to her after dinner and read her the book. She named the elf Egg Nog and then wanted to touch him! I said, no no!

then the cartoon came on and she was totally engrossed. She did sneak a touch on Egg Nog's foot, and just then, the cartoon showed the elf getting touched by a child and losing his magic, so she panicked. In the cartoon, the boy wrote a letter to Santa apologizing for stealing the elf's magic and wished the elf would be better. So, Kensley "wrote" a letter to Egg Nog apologizing, and even demanded I take her picture to include in the letter, just like on the cartoon.

She even said a prayer that Egg Nog would get better and be able to fly to Santa and back tomorrow.

She's so sweet! So, yes. The Elf on the Shelf is a huge hit.

So cute!

I think this will be our 3rd year with our elf and the boys just LOVE it! They love looking for it every morning. The boys didn't get to watch the show because of having to be in bed so they can get up this morning, but I am sure they'll watch it tomorrow.

We haven't taken him out yet, but when I get the rest of the Christmas decor up, he make his appearance one morning.

first thing she did was look for Egg Nog! We have to put him so little hands can't touch but it's fun and we'll see how it helps her restrain herself...

We watched it tonight and they loved it. Nathan was GLUED to the screen when Taylor touched the elf!

One time last year Nathan touched his elf and so we hid it for a day, but left a note from the elf saying that because he had touched him he may not have enough magic to make it to the North Pole and back again-when that part happened in the show, Nathan says-Remember last year when..... He was upset and did not touch it anymore after that!

The hardest part is remembering to hide it every night. THere's been a few times when I think of it in the middle of the night or when I first wake up and I've had to sneak downstairs to change his spot.

We had to record it! Kensley watched it again tonight and when he touched the elf, she started screaming and hid her eyes and then got all excited about him losing his magic and how that happened to Egg NOg and all... It's so funny!

The good thing about all this, though is that we put him away when Santa gets here, so she doesn't get TOO attached.

We're also using him to send Kensley a note saying Santa will come early because he (Egg Nog) told Santa we were traveling (since we're going out of town on the 23rd) and to make sure there are cookies and milk for Santa. Then we don't have to explain the early presents, the presents at both grandparents' house (not from Santa) and the like...

Do it, do it, Callie! You will NOT regret it!

Gwynne-we've done the note from Santa too. Santa always brings gifts here for the morning of Christmas Eve, since on Christmas day we leave at 8 am to be to my Grandma's by 10.

Awww! This sounds super fun!! I look forward to trying this with Evan in the upcoming years. I worked as a nanny for a family with two boys, and I remember they did it. I never quite figured out how it worked, but those boys were beyond excited when they saw that elf. Cute!

Max mauled his Elf today. Fortunately, he has no clue what is going on. Honestly, I think it frustrates him more than anything He just sees it as something else that looks like fun to play with but that he can't touch. I think next year will be better.

Max will be lucky if his elf lasts until next year At least he didn't name him yet, so no magic can be lost

Our Elf will come out on Dec 1. I am working on a calendar of what he'll "do" each day so daddy can do it before work (he leaves at 4am) and so we have plenty of ideas.

This site has REALLY cool printables (a letter from santa, an elf report, passport, etc)

Nathan just said yesterday that he can't wait for Dec 1st. I asked him why-and he said that was when his elf was coming back, so I guess we'll go with that instead of him coming when I get the rest of the decorations up (hopefully today).
