My work Christmas party is Friday. I know that I SHOULD go, but I don't exactly WANT to go.

I really like my coworkers, and I think it would be fun. However, a big part of me just wants to spend time with Max and relax. I feel like such a bum, though. Plus, the baby sitter would cost around $50 for the night, and there is a division specific part on the 15th that I know I would have more fun at. Also, part of me is worried I'll go and won't see anyone I know (becuase it's company wide and there are over 9,000 people in the company), which is a pretty silly fear, I know. I'd rather save the money and take Max to the Christmas tree lighting that night, but especially being new, I feel like I should reach out and go.

So...what do you guys think? Am I being a big chicken or really lame by not going? Or does it make sense to save the money this time, enjoy the Nuclear Holiday Party in a few weeks, and spend time hanging out with Max?

Personality I would be at the same place you are. If I was in the situation I'm pretty sure I would stay home and spend time with Hayden & go to the tree lighting. I dont think it makes you lame, just a great mom. Who doesn't want a mom who wants to spend time with them. Plus I know because of work your time with Max isn't as much as you would want. & it sounds like the party in a few weeks would be fun! Hope that made any sense I'm typing on my phone.

I say skip the big shin-dig-save the money and spend time with Max and then enjoy the smaller group party on the 15th.

I know the ever present nagging voice is telling you, "I might find a guyyyyy!" I'd say wait and decide that day. For me, I have days where I want to stay in and curl up at home and other days when I want to be out and socialize! Who knows, you might want to be a social butterfly that night Do you have to sign up/pay for anything beforehand and would you be able to find a last minute babysitter? Just playing devils advocate here Amykins

I'd think about it .. i agree with Kelli .... MEN MEN MEN but i know how you feel.... there are a lot of times i just want to stay home and hang out with the kiddo's vs. doing a social event for work. If you don't have to pay for the event just rsvp yes, and then if you don't feel like going then you don't have to

I think Kelli has great advice. It might be hard to find a sitter last minute, but just wait and see how you feel that day. I am always for a smaller more intimate gathering.
QT with Max is a good thing too.

I've always preferred smaller and more intimate so I would feel the same as you. If you just aren't feeling it then i'm sure there will be other opportunities for networking and socializing!

Thanks for the advice, everyone And for making me feel better if I decide not to go. I've already RSVPed, but it's so big I don't think it will matter if I don't show. I'm still working on finding a babysitter, so that probably won't happen until tomorrow or Friday anyway Kelli, you're right, I should definitely just see how I feel Friday. And you're also right...it might not be a half bad way to meet a new guy In my awesome outfit

You can always play the "my sitter cancelled at the last minute" card if you decide at the last minute not to go. I'd skip the big event too and attend the smaller function -- I never go to the parties that the school district throws but go to my smaller school/coworker parties instead.

I was totally going to say skip it but then the idea of a man sounds so good..... I would have to join the group of if it works out and you feel like you want to go for it but don't feel bad at all for not going!!!

and your outfit sounds smoking!!!! You will look fantastic!! and ifyou don't go wear it to the smaller party!

9,000 people.... at least 6,000 are men (this is my total stereotypical estimation since its an engineering firm)... at least 2,000 single men, right?! Totally teasing you!!

Oooohhh... fish in the sea....

If it were me, I'd do what you are doing, RSVP but also have a backup plan of no babysitter (ahem....) and definitely go to the department party. You may feel more like going the closer it gets.

And, I agree... you will look so hot, it'll be hard for those guys to NOT notice you. PICTURES!!!
