So she is coming tomorrow. I have no idea what to expect. We haven't really told our family (except my mom) because I just don't feel like explaining it or why at this point. If he qualifies I will tell them.
I appreciate your support. If you please not mention this on FB I would appreciate it.
Nashy only says mama, I try so hard to get him to say dada, he thinks it's a joke just laughs when I say dada to him then he smiles and says mama. I have taken him to a speech pathologist because of his cleft he has a chance of delayed speech, she said she won't be too concerned unless he is 18 months and doesn't start talking more.
Well today was just a screener. The evaluator will call me in 3 days and set an evaluation within 14 days.
She did a lot of paper work asking me questions like birth weight, any complications during pregnancy and childbirth, peer interactions, cognitive abilities. There were lots of questions. Some of the things I didn't know how to answer were how he interacted with peers. She didn't want to know about us, but how he did with other kids. I have seen him around kids plenty of times, but I found that I couldn't answer some of her questions. Or maybe I just didn't feel confident with my answers which bugged me. Shouldn't I know the most about my own child?? That just bugged me.
But, he has to have a 40% delay in one area (communication) or a 20% delay in 2 areas. She said he was "charting out" of the other 4 areas but she does see issues with communication.
THe evaluator will spend about 2 hours with him and determine if he qualifies.
