I took Gabriel to an audiologist today because the speech evaluator recommended it to rule out hearing loss as to why Gabriel is not speaking yet. I expected him to pass with flying colors, as he seems to hear us fine at home and can follow directions. Instead, he failed both tests they did in his right ear. The second test showed "possible mild to moderate" hearing loss. Ugh. We've got to talk to our pediatrician now to see if he wants to check for fluid/infection himself or if we need to go straight to an ENT. Hopefully it's nothing, but if he does have mild hearing loss in one ear, I guess that could explain a lot about his lack of speech...
Not what I was expecting today! Anyone else have a kid that has hearing loss or has failed a hearing test?
Sydney had a hearing test in Feb and failed horribly, so bad they said if it was sensorineural hearing loss she would qualify for hearing aids, she got a new set of ear tubes and is all good...her loss was due to fluid in her ears though nothing structural, etc, so the tubes easily corrected it. Good luck, hopefully it is something easily fixed!
Courtney failed her hearing test at her Kindergarten screening, but none of us really believed she had hearing issues then, I believed she couldn't follow their directions because they were too complicated.
