My MIL doesn't like the name we chose, so now we're discussing other names... I never would have thought my husband would actually change his mind because she didn't like it, but I was wrong I guess. I'm glad I didn't tell a lot of people yet, but I feel dumb that I said anything now. I just thought he was more set on that name than he was I guess.
She doesn't like the nickname Gabby, and I guess there's a restaurant by that name here that she doesn't like. My husband now thinks there may be too many questions about pronunciation and spelling too. We have to spell our last name a lot, so he doesn't want questions about the first name.
Sorry you are going through that. Um, to put it bluntly, Hubby needs to grow a pair and tell his mom that it's our baby. She had her chance to name her kids and now it's yours. If he's concerned with having to spell out the name and tell people how to pronounce it, let him talk to me. I've been dealing with it my whole life. If I say it, people misspell it and if they read it, they mispronounce it. It's Dayna Winge pronounced Dana Wing. And Alek's is Aleksandr Stroh.
From now on, don't say a thing to her about any name. Or tell her something WAY offbase, like William Clinton or Barak. Make her stew thinking you guys have lose your mind.
I would be very upset if someone influenced a decision my husband and I made together, especially my mother in law. I'd tell her thanks for the opinion, but we really like the name. This was also the one that you said would not be happy about you being pregnant, right? That's none of her business!
What's wrong with the spelling? Were you going to do a unique spelling? You could just spell it Gabrielle. I don't see why there would be confusing with that.
