Ikea recommends age six for it.
Yep, that's it. The sides are about a foot high without a mattress, with just a small opening at the ladder, so it really is hard to roll out eve n without the canopy. And all together it's about 4-4 1/2 feet tall. I'm taller than the bed.

The boys have bunk beds and Owen has been on the top since he was 5. He is good about getting in and out and everything.

Rylan is 5 now and i'd be ok with him sleeping up there. With Addison though, i'd probably wait a lot longer before letting her sleep on the top because she is fearless and wild!

The boys bunk bed is wood and the sides on the top bunk are really high and thick..I've come in and seen Owen sleeping right up against the side and it's way too high for him to ever roll out.

Oh my goodness, I hadn't seen those pictures! Now I'm going to have to bookmark some for ideas when it's time to turn the bed over!

Really, before I bought any bunkbeds for my kids I'd do the safety research.

I wanted IKEA bunks for my boys when they were young. IKEA's designs are so contemporary and appealing, but I believe they were involved in litigation back in the 90's over bunkbed injuries. Instead, I bought bbs that were made from thicker wood and had stronger construction.

Remember, they'll be jumping on those beds no matter what you say.

I'd say probably 8 but I prefer not to use them. They scare me to death
