OK, with all the fun we've had with teething, the top two molars came in and I didn't even notice anything because Maggie's been sick with one thing after another since March.

BUT now the bottom two are cutting, and they are causing havoc with her. I asked our doctor a few weeks ago whether or not this whole business could be swelling her adnoids, and creating an excess of mucous in her ear/nose/throat membranes, which in turn drips and creates a cough...She doesn't think so, and has given Maggie a puffer and is treating her now for asthma.

The puffer seems to be helping, but the bottom teeth flared up again yesterday, and suddenly we have another stuffy/runny nose and coughing and now I'm not convinced it was the puffer as much as her teeth taking a break.

Remember that the whole time Maggie has been teething, we've had all manner of side effects with it from fever to diarrhea, fussiness, crankiness, lack of appetite, to constipation and vomiting. I'm more convinced than ever that all this nose and coughing stuff is related to her teeth this morning, but am deathly afraid of stopping the puffer at the same time.

Anyone ever heard of this kind of side effect with teething before?

I haven't heard of this, but I don't have much experience with teething issues. I hope things get better for her though! I probably wouldnt stop the puffer just to be safe. I developed asthma at a very young age, sometime between 1 - 2. I was allergic to cow's milk and had all the mucousy stuff you are talking about and a horrible cough. Any cows milk products made it flare up, and I had inhalers & medications for it. Maybe you could try cutting back on the dairy for just a day to see if she is any better?

I hadn't even thought about that kind of allergy - I would have expected something like that to show up early on.

I'll ask the doc about it.

It just sounds like allergies to me but possibly aggrivated due to the teething.

How is she doing today?

It's a full blown cold - and she's given it to me - and I'm heading to the dr's today because it's in my chest now...fun wow. Could be looking at a second bought of pneumonia here.

She's not 100%, but she's doing alright, and the puffers seem to be helping to keep it in her nose rather than her chest.
