Hope it's not as bad as they predict. But people seem to take it very seriously. It's crazy over here, the stores are running out of basic groceries, there are lines of cars at the gas stations. I guess it's not that often that major hurricane hits NYC. For us, it's supposed to get bad tonight through Tuesday morning.

Anyone else in the path of Sandy stay safe!!

We survived! We had lots of strong winds and heavy rain, and lost power. It came back on early Tuesday morning. Nothing too bad in our area, thankfully! Still thousands of people in our town without power though, my sister being one.

We got lucky, never lost power or internet or phone. Some minimal damage in the backyard. Very thankful for that. But some friends got flooded pretty bad. Some relatives are still without power. No school for this entire week. No subway, buses just resumed with limited service. Gas stations are out of gas. Many stores with empty shelves for bread and milk. It's a disaster all around our area. Just unbelievable damage. I haven't seen anything like this in my entire life.

Helen so glad you are ok! I hope they can get your area back to somewhat normal relatively quickly. The images on tv around your area are unbelievable!

You know where the storm came ashore? That's where I lived my entire life until this April when we moved to CO. My hometown is completely flooded out and closed off. It took a direct hit of 87MPH sustained winds. It's so sad. But it's amazing that more people weren't hurt. All my family and friends still in the state were not hurt and had very little damage from wind. The water damage remains to be gauged since most people aren't being allowed through the roads to see their homes. It's still too dangerous.

Yikes, Constance!!! I can't remember, did you end up selling your house or renting it out?

We sold, but I don't consider where we were living then to be my hometown. The inland area we lived for 11 years only sustained winds of 50mph, power outages and some flooding near the lake and dam. Our old house was not affected.
The house I grew up in however may need to be totaled. My grandparents still live next door and have not been allowed back to check the damage because of the flooding. This is the only time in 80+ years of living there that they have needed to evacuate their coastal town because of a storm. Southern NJ is so tucked in that most storms mostly miss it or do very little damage.
