Hi guys!

I am off for a couple weeks so I hope to be on JM and active on FB more. I miss you ladies!

Luke's developmental therapist (my favorite) conducted the HELP (Hawaiian Early Learning Profile) on Luke today. He scored right at age level on all items except language (expected).
Language - 24 months
He needs to work on using self centered pronouns. So instead of "help please" he needs to say "help me please". Or 'cookie" he should say "I want cookie." She said as soon as she gave him a minus on this he looked at her and said "My turn." LOL! To be at age level he also needs to tell what he is doing with descriptive details. So instead of 'firetruck' he should say "I play with the red firetruck." or instead of "firetruck whooo whooo whoo" he should say, "that firetruck is loud."

Cognitive he was at 27 months. He named all his colors and counted to 18. He also was able to identify and say circle, triangle, star and identify (but not say without prompting) square and diamond.
Gross motor he was at 26 months. He needed to jump sideways to score at 30 months. We worked on that tonight...wanna laugh?? Try to get your 2 year old to jump sideways. We were laughing so hard we cried!
Fine motor was 26 months, but he is in OT as well, so we are working on that. I am not sure what scored him below age level in that one??

I am very proud of that sweet guy and how hard he works. It's so cute to watch him repeat words now. He tries so hard to use the right sounds. You can see him scrunch up his eyes and work at saying what he should. He is just coming right along!!!

Sounds like he is doing wonderfully and is not too far behind at all! I bet he's totally caught up by 3 years old!

Now I am totally curious about trying to get Teresa to jump sideways tomorrow!

That's awesome, Amanda!! I'm so glad that he's doing so well!!! You guys rock!! LIike Kris said, I bet he's totally caught u pin no time!

As far as the pronouns....Max doesn't do that well at all. He just says "mine." So, "Mine Truck" or "Go to mine grandma's house" He also doesn't really do sentances like you described.

Uh, Is all that supposed to be happening? Certainly isn't happening with us. And I'm totally unconcerned. Am I supposed to be thinking about this?

Teresa didn't do too badly trying to jump sideways (but she does get a ton of practice jumping into the pool!). She couldn't always get both feet off the ground at the same time to go sideways though.

Awesome news! So glad he got the help he needed when he did and now he has come soo far. Also, wanted to add I have conducted the HELP when I was working and it is a very loosely interpreted check list so don't get too concerned if something came out lower unless significantly lower which it didn't from the sounds of things. It may have been changed since I used it though.

Kelly - thanks for the tip! She did say, "This is just an assessment I like to do periodically and there are somethings I couldn't check because he would never do these things in my session."
I do like seeing that he is progressing through data. I can tell through day to day life but I like seeing the formal data too.

He is doing great! I am sure that in about 3 months his vocab will explode and he will talk full sentences. This is what happened with my godson and he talks so much now and is no different than other kids his age.
