Wondering if anyone else's LO has had speech issues. Our pediatrician recommended early intervention for Joey and he qualifies for speech therapy once a week. He has only had 3 sessions so far, but even before the sessions started he had been improving on his own. He says a few words here and there but doesn't use many words to communicate with me.

I don't have any experience with speech therapy. But I wanted to respond since I read your post.

I know one woman in RL who has a little boy that just got early intervention b/c of delayed speech. We had playdates a bunch of times and I honestly hadn't noticed anything different about her little boy and the other kids. The little boy is getting speech therapy once a month now. I think they have to work with him in order to get him caught up with kindergarten when he starts but other than that I don't think it's a problem.

It's really a good thing to catch a speech problem early. That way they catch up and it won't be noticeable when he starts preschool/kindergarten. It sounds like he is doing well with the sessions. I hope that the speech therapy will continue to get Joey talking more.

I hope I didn't say anything stupid since I have no idea what you are going through. I really just wanted to be supportive.

I haven't personally but I will say from experience with my students, the earlier the intervention, the better.
