Hello ladies. I couldn't find the introduction thread and a few people were asking me for details so here it goes.
My name is Ashley. I'm 22. I live in Toronto, On. Canada.
I am the mother of a wonderful little boy, Owen. He turned 3 today!! Jan.28.
He was diagnosed last week as being Autistic and having severe sensory issues.
We have been through tons of appointments this past year to get to this point.
Now we are going to be waiting to start multiple therapies for his delays.
Behavioural, physio, occupational and speech therapies.
And in regards to the question Sally5:
Autism seems to go hand in hand with sensory problems. We originally thought he had SPD - Sensory Processing Disorder and didn't consider autism. After the specialist did their full assessment, they said he is a moderately functioning autistic child and the sensory portion of his brain that goes with that fell into the the SEVERE category. SO it is possible to have one or the other condition but most children on the spectrum have some sensory integration issues. My son just happens to have very extreme sensory problems.
If anyone has any more questions, I can refer you to some great websites. =)
