My sister and I are both expecting and my mom asked what types of diapers are the best. She wants to start buying them as we both get closer so that there's not such a burden on either of us and so she can have a stash of them at her house. Since there hasn't been a baby in the house in 10 years, we're a little out of the loop as far as the best disposable diaper. Any suggestions or notes about what to get or what to stay away from?

Honestly, it totally depends on the baby. With my DS, Huggies worked best - always. For my DD, Pampers have worked the best.

I love pampers swaddlers for newborn babies. They are so soft and are shaped for the cord stump. After that I have always used luves. They are cheaper than the other brands and have always held my children all night.

yep, it depends on the baby. I will say though, with all the troubles over the new pampers dry max, I will not purchase Pampers no matter how good of a deal i can get. Im not going to risk giving my baby blisters (as some of my friends children have suffered)

Yep depends on the baby...we do cder now, but I didn't with DD and for the first year with DS we used sposies too...For the newborn, and size one diapers I loved the pampers swaddlers. Then I used Huggies cruisers or Luvs, or the TRU brand worked good for DS too. I would say if you want a good statsh for the first couple of months to go with pampers.

If I were your mom, I would just get a walmart card or some sort of gift card, and put a certain amount of money on it a month. This way you could spend that money on diapers when baby gets here, because you really wont know what works for baby until then.

Huggies have been absolutely horrible for both my kids, I used Pampers with Dakota and this time Parent's Choice has been AMAZING! I plan on using Parent's Choice with this one, if they work!

I've never tried Parents Choice. Anyone tried Target Brand? They look similiar to Huggies, and I've never had luck with Huggies fit.

Well both my sons peed out of the pampers. I dont like Luvs because the straps are really thin and also because they get lumpy.

We love Huggies in this house! If I could afford to buy huggies all the time we would. Unfortuntely we still have 2 children in diapers (NO my 3 yr old is still not potty trained argh!) and so we use huggies at night and for naps and off brand parents choice the rest of the time.

If you dont mind using an off brand I would suggest parents choice from walmart. They are alot cheaper!

I use Target brand for my 2 yr old but my 8 month old pees and poops right out of them. The only diaper right now that consistently works for her is the regular Huggies.

I am a HUGE lover of Huggies after they are out of newborn size. I love Pampers swaddlers for newborn size they are supper soft and love the cord stump feature! After they are out of swaddlers I would say Huggies. I pay more for diapers because all the off brands I have tried have not even compared and trust me I am not a brand spec. person about stuff like that. Parents choice, target, and cosco diapers have all leaked for us or had a really urine smell the minute they were wet.

This time I am trying to do some cloth.... DH is so not on board so who knows!

I was a huge pampers fan until the drymax. It makes DD rash up within an hour and she's a toddler. I fear what it will do to a newborn. I switched to luvs and they are ok but can leak. For this baby I'm stocking up on Huggies Little Snugglers or whatever they are called now. They have a cut out for cord stump and are very soft as well. I may try luvs when baby grows a little. Overall I'm pretty happy with them and I can get 180 for $22.50

I don't pre-buy a ton of diapers. I do save coupons and money in a diaper jar. If you do buy diapers don't buy them until within 2 months before baby is due and tape the receipt to the package. Most stores won't allow you to return items if it's after 90 days.

Like others have said it depends on the baby and their skin sensitivity and needs. We love huggies but Pampers have also worked well. The hospital where I gave birth used the pampers for newborns that had he little cutout for the cord and they were very soft and never gave him a rash.

Sorry wish there was a more definitive answer! I will say this though that you should sign up with huggies and pampers and all the other companies to get on their mailing list and they will mail you coupons and samples! There are almost always coupons out there for diapers making them a much better deal when you can pair the coupons with a sale!

I used to love Pampers Swaddlers, but I am also afraid of them now because of the drymax deal. If they don't have the dry max, I will probably use them. If not I will probably use Huggies, possibly Luvs. I used to have horrible luck with the cheaper brands, would have to change baby almost as soon as baby wet to prevent leaks and ended using more diapers. They may be better now but we just don't want to try again...We figure I save money on formula by breastfeeding so I can spend a little extra for diapers.

I use pampers newborn swadlers for when they are newborn, and then Huggies after that But you will find that it will be your preference. I have 4 girlfriends with babies and we all use different things according to what each of us likes! Check out a few of the diaper websites and see if you can ask for a free sample. This way you will be able to see how each of them feel , look...etc

I'm just mirroring what everyone else said, but yeah- for no rhyme or reason certain brands just work better on certain babies. Pampers have always worked for my DD, Huggies are a last resort if they are on sale since they sometimes leak for her, and after trying Luvs and the store brand once I knew to never buy those again! Maybe I'll get lucky and this baby will work in the store brand. ha!

Also, I think I'm the only person who loves the DryMax. Nothing has ever worked better for my DD! Now I can use those at night instead of buying the more expensive overnight diapers.

First, let me just say that you are blessed to have such a great mom! My mom buys me a box of diapers every time she goes to Costco, so for the last 17 months I have only had to buy one thing of diapers! It has been a Godsend!

She always buys the Huggies and I have no problems with them. When DS was a newborn, we requested the Pampers swaddlers, because, like the others said, they are so soft and easy to use with the cord. I've also gotten some Luvs from my MIL and I don't have any problem with those either.

All in all, it does depend on the baby. But I've found that I really haven't had any issues with any brand.

With both of my girls we always used pampers when they were young. As they got a little older we would sometimes get Huggies or Luvs, but mainly have always been pampers fans. I agree with the other ladies..request all the samples you can get to see what works best for your baby.

I have used both the parent choice and the target brand diapers. I found that both brands seemed to hold my children fine untill they got into the larger sizes(4 and up) for some reason the larger sizes seem to leak really quickly.

I would be wary of Pampers until they resolve the issues with the DryMax, my cousin just had a baby and the hospital used the Pampers Swaddlers that had DryMax and the poor boy endedup with a burn on his bum, that caused him to scream in pain whenever he went #2 and the burn eventually started bleeding.

With my first two, we used Swaddlers for Newborn size, then switched to Huggies for size 1-3. Once they were about 12-18 months and not wetting as much, we switched to Target brand.
