So far, we have told our parents, and our parents have passed the news on to some extended family. I didn't quite want everybody to know yet, but I understand our parents excitement and need to tell. I guess I just feel like, if something is going to happen it will happen regardless of who knows and the more people who know, the more support I have.
Anyway, we found out about this baby on my dad's birthday. We went over there for dinner and in his card we wrote "We all love you, all four of us." and then asked him to read it outloud. He read it and then went on to tell a story and in the middle of his story stopped and just said "oh." and then continued on. After he was all finished telling his story he asked if I was pregnant. We told him yes and he was super excited. He even rubbed my belly, which is SO unlike my dad. Needless to say, he and my mom and super excited for us!
We told DH's mom by handing DD the digital pregnancy test when she came over. Lorena was just walking around with it and showing it to her and she kept asking "Oh, is that your thermometer?" Dh and I were CRACKING UP. She finally grabs it and says "It's a pregnancy test." And then pauses for a moment and says "and it says pregnant." It still didn't sink in for another few minutes, and then she jumped up and started screaming.
We told DH's brother and his girlfriend by playing a game of hangman with them. The first one we did was just a normal one, and then the second one we put the subject as "In The News" and put blank spaces for the words "Shelley is pregnant." They got to Shelley is --e-nant and then they both stopped and said "OMG are you serious?" They were really excited. I had just told my BILs girlfriend the night before that I was shocked at how long it was taking us to get pregnant.
Those are both really cute ideas. We live really far away from family- we're in Africa on military orders- so I couldn't do it in person. I had planned on ordering customized pink and blue M&Ms with We're Pregnant and Due June 1st on them. But then when I went to order them it said they weren't going to be delivered for 10 days. I knew there was no way I could wait that long to tell our families. So I created one of those baby announcement websites on The Bump. I sent a message to our families telling them how I'm learning web design and had designed another website that I wanted them to check out. (I have a blog that they all follow and I've been learning how to do layouts so I knew they would fall for it.) I put a tiny url in the message so it wouldn't give away the name of the website. Within minutes we had family calling us. It was so much fun!
