Seriously... the lady rolled the needle around and around in my arm looking for my vein. OUCH!

And I have to go back on Wednesday for my second HCG draw and I'm terrified I am going to look like a crack addict with bruises on both my arms.

I hate getting blood drawn. What is the key to a successful draw?

Ugh, how awful. I am tough to get blood from, because I have teeny tiny viens so they always have to use the children's needles.

I hope your next blood draw goes better!

I feel your pain! lol I had a lady like that one time. After she finally got it, I asked the other nurse to make a note in my chart for her not to take it next time! lol she laughed and said some one had just told her that earier that day. I can imagine why!
Hope you have a different person next time!

I also have little veins, so I always mention that and they usually opt for the "butterfly" needle, which is pretty small. And I've had it done enough that I know which two veins have guaranteed success.

I don't usually mind getting blood drawn, but I remember once when I had to get a physical for work and the phlebotomist was TERRIBLE. I had a huge bruise up my arm for a week or more, and so did several of my coworkers!! It must have been her first day on the job.

I hear you. I had my blood drawn once a week for 7 months. Just switched to getting monthly draws and now I am pg so I have had it done 3 x in the last week.

Drink lots of fluids. It is easier to find a vein. My hand is still bruised from the ER last Thur. The nurse kept moving the needle around in my hand too.

Oh goodness, I hate needles.

I don't know what the key to a successful draw is, I'm just lucky to have very noticeable veins. I think if I had to deal with what you went through, I'd pass out. I hope your next one goes better.

Hey girls! I'm from the March DDC, but I'm a phlebotomist and thought I would put in my two cents Make sure to drink lots of water, ask for a butterfly, if they don't have one, pump your fist and keep your arm as staright as possible (helps hold the vein in place) Goodluck next time!

I have rolling veins and then when they finally get them, they like to blow. I've found that asking them to look at both veins before sticking helps. And tell them your veins move so they take the time to look. Take some deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth before they stick ya and that'll help your arm relax.
