I was hesitant to ask this question because of the drama it caused on another board, but I know you women are much more mature than to cause fights.

So, how do you feel about having a glass of red wine during your pregnancy?

I have never done it with my other pregnancies but have been reading allot about the subject and just might have 1. I'm still not %100 sure but from what I have read it could be more beneficial than harmful if done once our twice a week. I read from maybe 5 separate articles that studies on actual babies followed from birth to kindergarten actually have less behavioral problems and score higher on aptitude tests.

Ive read very mixed things on this... most say that 1 glass of wine a week is fine but maybe not ideal.

Ive been meaning to research it more

I am not a wine drinker...I suppose now would not be the ideal time for me to start lol. I was more of a mixed drink or exotic martini drinker. I can't wait until I can at least have one drink

I have never read anything to lead me to believe it could be beneficial just the negatives. For that reason I have never drank any type of alcohol while pregnant. If I was in your shoes considering it I wouldn't do it in the first trimester when everything is forming. Just my two cents

I am not sure I would put a whole lot of stock into studies for or against this issue since half of them end up being disputed anyways but I think a glass of wine once in a while after your first trimester is fine... of course that is entirely up to the individual...

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Although alcohol doesn't tempt me at all, I don't think there is anything wrong with having a drink every once in a while. I agree though that I would wait until the second trimester, just to make sure. If it's a special occassion like your anniversary or something, just have a couple sips and enjoy yourself. Staying relaxed is important too!

with my girls and with this one late in pregnancy (3rd trimester) I will have a sip of wine here or there, but I have never had a whole glass.
When I took bradely classes with my first pregnancy the instructor suggested to have a glass of wine in early labor to help you relax! I thoguht it was a great idea and was planning on doing it but whenn labor came I was WAY to miserable to get a glass of wine down...

I am okay with it. With Robert, I followed all the rules. No deli meat, sushi, alcohol, soft cheese, etc... With Mady, I followed the all about moderation rule. That will be the same thing I do with this baby. I don't worry that a half-glass of wine here or there is going to hurt my baby. But it is completely a personal decision.

I'm not a big drinker so I've chosen not to have a drink. My doctor did say that it is okay to have a glass of wine though once in a while.

I'm not a wine drinker. The only time I have had wine was with communion at church.

I honestly don't think that a little bit here and there would be harmful. Everything I have read was specifically talking about consuming large amounts of alcohol while pregnant, and I could not find anything about an occasional glass of wine.

I'm not personally consuming alcohol while I'm pregnant, but I'm also not having any caffeine either. I'm opting out of anything addictive, it just seems sensible to me. I figure if I wouldn't give it to the baby once it's born, I shouldn't be giving it to the baby while it's in the womb.

I am a wine drinker when not pregnant but while pregnant I drink "fake" wine. non-alcholic. I don't think i could do it knowing that there's a huge concequence if "they"were wrong. Its only 9 months out of our lives and i just want to do everything I can.

I think it's fine, lol. I wouldn't recommend hard liquor every now and then, but a SMALL glass of red wine every now and then isn't going to hurt your baby. I myself don't do it, because I don't really see a point. I LOVE wine, but I like to get a buzz, so that's definitely a NO while prego.

I don't drink alcohol at all pregnant or not so obviously I will not be drinking any wine. It's completely your choice but in my personal opinion, It's just not worth taking the chance.

I've read it's very healthy to have one alcoholic drink/day... specially red wine!

So I'm assuming one glass of wine every now and then wouldn't harm the baby... I've had pregnant friends drink half a glass of wine at their birthday's or whatever else, no big deal for us!

As for myself, I'm avoiding alcohol... I'm not going to lie, it's been HARD for me... I enjoyed having a beer with Dh on those hot days, or wine with dinner, a few drinks out with the friends... Now I always feel odd having water But considering my last pregnancy ended in a MC (I didn't have a drop of alcohol then, but regardless) it's hard to not be a lot more over protective this time around...

It's lame, b/c I KNOW that a glass of wine is probably fine, and every now and then I really crave it... but my fears won't let me!!!

And then while BF, you can't drink either right???

LOL.. Man, how sucky!!! hahahahahaa
