Has anyone watched this documentary? I just watched it again, and I love it. It's very interesting and a complete eye opener into birth in North America.

You can stream it online here for those who are interested.

Great movie! It is the movie that convinced my dh that a homebirth is a better idea for us.

This is a great movie. I watched it about a month before our son was born. I have it on Netflix right now so I might watch it again when my son takes a nap here in a bit

Love it!! I watched it a dozen times before Hunter was born, I was having last minute fears of about a NCB and it just reassured me that I was doing the right thing, the best thing for both of us.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED it and is a reason I would love to have a homebirth. BUT being 85+ miles from a hospital it's not an option (if something were to go wrong). It has shown me though that I do have a voice and I CAN say NO to things I don't want, like pitocin, etc.

I have watched it a couple times wish I had seen it before DD was born. I did EVERYTHING the hospital told me and in the end had a horrible delivery and I blame all the drugs.
I would love to do a home birth but there are no Midwives around here that do home births (at least that I know of). I am going to attend a couple LLL meetings once I get farther in my pregnancy and I am sure some of those ladies can direct me towards one. At the very least I am going to use the birth center in the hospital and try for a 100% natural birth. I still have to find out all the "rules" I don't want even an IV but it all depends on what the hospital makes you do I guess.

A hospital can not make you do anything. I find it awful that so many people lack control when it comes to their births . Most standard protocol is to insert a saline lock JIC of an emergency, but you CAN refuse ANYTHING. The nurses may tell you that your putting you and your baby at risk but, they can not make you do it. Its just not legal.

^Your right, you can have control but a lot of women don't. Write out your birth plan and make sure the hospital sticks to it.

Yep I watched it when I was pregnant with my 1st. I wanted to have a natural birth before that though. I just made DH watch it the other day, it was the first time he'd seen it

I want to go to school for nursing but I know I would never be able to be an L&D nurse because I can't keep my mouth shut and I would be fighting with the doctors all the time LOL!

That's what makes a great nurse! Someone who can be an adovcate for their patients

I totally frown upon my colleagues who complain about how their patients are complaining. Well DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
