I wonder if any of you ladies have tricks or ideas in making ready-made/store bought food healthier....

Ex: pancake mix: I add wheat germ and ground flax seeds to the mixture
kraft mac n cheese: I had peas, ham

I'm looking for other ways to make these processed foods more healthier. I know it doesn't substitute making things from scratch but when I am short on time sometimes this is my only hope

there are also healthier alternatives to your regular boxed meals now too off the top of my head right now I can only think of annies here is a link

I wouldn't say adding to store bought stuff but I do have ways of making us eat better without really realizing it.

Puy lentils are great in things like spaghetti sauce. I'll use half the usual amount of ground beef and throw in lentils instead to make up the rest.

I'll also use half potato, half rutabaga/swede when I make mashed potato - I actually like it better that way. Butternut squash works well too.

i know that some nights when you're exhausted and busy, etc, pre-made stuff is an easy option. Usually I just try to add some veggies somehow, we buy a lot of frozen veggies so they're always on hand. Can't really pretend that you're making the boxed stuff healthier lol.

Annie's does make some good stuff, I wish that it was more affordable, though it is getting better in price to buy organic.
