We also just have a pail liner in regular diaper pail. Depending on if DD is still in diapers or not, we may get a second one since the first won't hold enough between the two kids.

We use liquid Tide for washing too. We have tried other things and this seems to be working the best for us.

Wet pails are seriously gross- who wants a bucket full of poo water sitting around?! I used Planet Wise hanging pails in my bathroom and then just toss everything straight into the washer from there.

Dumb question alert...so, having a pail and a pail liner isn't going to stink up the room really bad? Like I was imagining I would have to have some sort of zip bag to keep the smell in until wash time?! Ahhhhh, I've been so focused on reading about diapers themselves that I haven't thought much about where I will store dirties.

Nope it should not stink. The more the dipes are aired out the less they stin, IMO. Now if you go up close and sniff it has a oder.. I keep mine in the laundry room, but im sure if they were in the bedroom there would be no stink issue.. I think you can get a pail freshner poweder too, to help with any stink issue...

We kept the pail in DD's room until she became mobile and was getting into it and never had stink issues. Now we keep it in the bathroom across the hall from her room.

Thank you for the answers!!! And forgive me, i have a few more!!!
So let me get this straight, you basically have an open pail...sort of like using a trash can? My sons diapers were stinky, but I kept them zipped up...I'm excited that it stinks less when left open. I am assuming you dumped the poop in the toilet. Do you spray or rinse your diapers before putting them in the pail? How often do you empty? And also, do you use like 1/4 of the normal amount of liquid tide? I'm so excited that I wouldn't need special soap!!!

I have a diaper pail with a lid, so they are contained, but not "zipped" up. I always dump the poop in the toilet before putting the diaper in the pail. I don't own a diaper sprayer so my diapers don't get rinsed before going in the pail. I empty the pail every 2-3 days depending on if I had other laundry going that day or if DD went through extra diapers for some reason.

I have an old school top load washer and use up to the first line on the cup with the liquid Tide. If you have a HE machine, you will need to use less detergent though.

I use powder Tide - I have also tried a million other detergents and found out that Tide is THE BEST! I use 3 tbsps in each load.
If you seal you diapers up in a ziploc or something they will get VERY stinky! Amonia builds up and its gross. I do not even use a lid and it doesn't smell unless you stick your face up to it. I wash every 2 days, sometimes 3 but never more than that b/c its not good to give bacteria and yeast a chance to grow. FYI - store your pail in a cool, dry place - away from a window where heat from the sun can get on it, or a heating vent. There are pail fresheners you can buy, or put a few drops of essential oil in the pail.
I throw the poo in the toilet and I always rinse off poo. I am kinda crazy about that, but I just think it keeps me from having to deal with stink and stains.
I don't have a sprayer; although, I desperately want one. I just use a utility sink and it works great. I keep a bottle of diluted Dawn (I just save the bottle when its done and add water), and I use it to help get stuck on poop off, works great! Like I said, I am a bit crazy about clean - so I wipe out the sink and toilet after every change too. Just a quick swipe. I save my old shampoo bottles for this I mix that last little bit with some water and put some in the bottom of my toilet brush holder so I always have some to clean with (and its not toxic for the kids and pets) and I put some in a spray bottle for cleaning the sink and toilet seat. Obviously, I still to a good cleaning with vinegar once in a while - but this is for daily cleaning.

I use a wetbag that zips, and it hangs from the bathroom door You'd be surprised, when it's zipped up it doesn't smell up the room!!

Nicki's Diaper - Planet Wise Hanging Wet/Dry Bag

the other good thing is that you can just throw it in the wash with the diapers, I have two of them and I rotate every other week or so. I've also taken them with us on road trips to hold dirty laundry, swim suits, they are really handy!
