The other day I noticed that my abdominal muscles are still separated- maybe a finger and a half gap....and that happens to pretty much all pregnant women. Being a work out freak that I am/was, it got me thinking, with muscles being out of alignment and stretched, how effective are typical exercises to remedy that and get stomach back to more or less pre-pregnancy condition??
So I did some googling, and as I suspected, regular exercises (like say sit ups) will only make surface muscles stronger but will do nothing for separation...which is what often causes that 'i still look 3 months pregnant" bulge. In fact, it sounds like often times it can even make separation worse! Whats more, not getting those separated muscles back together, can cause issues later on.....
So do some research of your own and chose appropriate exercises!
i was wondering about this the other day so i was just sticking to weights and general cardio type stuff so far. im going to have to read about this further though! I tried to see if mine were separated a few weeks ago but i couldn't tell, it all just felt the same to me.

My muscles seperated big time, and still are about 3 fingers width apart. Was wondering how to start exersising as without my belly bandit, I feel SO weak! Mommies doing these keep updating please.
Maybe we can all share what works and what doesn't and our research?
