So far I have had 3 OB visits, including 2 ultrasounds and 1 doppler. The 2nd u/s was done bc I was only 6 wks when they did the first and all they saw was the gestational sac. They have me scheduled for next Friday (June 3) to have the anatomy scan and he said to do tests for any abnormalities. He mentioned an AFP test? and that was it. He said "and other blood tests" so I am not sure what all he is doing. Is it normal for them to not do a NT test? Also, when they do the anatomy scan I will only be 15w1d... doesn't that seem kind of early??
This is my first and was a surprise so I am still lost.
the NT scan has to be done before 13weeks to get the best result. 15 weeks sounds early for an anatomy scann but i bet they repeat it at 20 weeks. Im going for my scann at 19 weeks which is a week earlier then they normally do it.
I've never had a NT scan so to me it's normal not to have one. It does seem early for an anatomy scan but like Texas said, they'll probably do another at 20 weeks. The AFP screening is just a blood test that tests for likliness of problems like Downs, Spina Bifida, etc. Just know that it has a VERY HIGH rate of false positives and is completely optional.

I did too... at least from what I have read. Thats why I was questioning it. Not sure if he just scheduled it bc it fell on my next monthly appt or what the reasoning was. I figured he would have waited 2 more appts until I was 19 weeks.
As long as their machine shows a good clear picture, you should have no problem finding out what your baby is at 15 weeks. With DD, we found out at 15 weeks and with this one, we found out at 12w6d because I went for the NT scan and she got a clear peak without even trying really hard.
NT scans are optional, and many areas don't offer them routinely. Don't worry that you didn't have one done. The AFP test is a blood test where they check probabilities of Down's and a couple of other neural issues.
