LOL! Yeah, it's hard to type the differences in pronounciation... My extended family is from New York and they pronounce the name, Mary with more emphasis on the "a", like when you say "apple". Emphasize the "a" sound as you say apple, but say the name Mary. Or see if this helps more: What sound does a sheep make? "baa-aa". That "a" sound is the same way some New Yorkers pronounce the names, Mary, Carrie, or Tara. The word, marry, as in, "Will you marry me?" may be pronounced the same as Mary by a New Yorker. To me it sounds like, "Will you m-aaaa-rry me?" Hehehe!

I think accents and where they originate is fascinating!!

I used to... but I've moved around the country so much that my accent can seem muddled at times! As a result, I have an unconcscious ability to change my accent whenever we travel to different areas of the country. My accent always seems to "fit right in" with the locals! Not to mention, Florida (as I'm sure you know) doesn't really have it's own "accent" because the majority of people living here are transplants. Only the "backwoods" Floridians and those who live up in the Panhandle have that "twangy" accent, right?
