So today was my 39 week appt and of course I got checked. I'm 2cm and 70 percent effaced and at -3 station. Blood pressure and weight are great...everything is perfect. My appt was around 12:30pm and I noticed I was spotting afterward, which I understand is normal. Now I have never spotted after sex or an exam...ever. So I'm not familiar with how long its supposed to last. I am still spotting and its not just when I wipe, it comes out on to the panty liner and all. Not bright red or anything. So is this considered normal? I'm very very crampy still. I was just checked Sunday night at L&D and they did it twice with no bleeding afterward. I can hardly stay in one position for long cause I feel like I'm on my period, you know the first day when it hurts in your back and down your legs. Ugh!!! Lol so yeah, spotting this long after the exam is normal right???
Ive spotted for hours after an exam and i bleed every time. Usually passing clots as well. If its not bright red its not fresh blood and i would assume its from the exam. But i would keep an eye on it, it should be slowing down, if its not you should probably call in.
Did your dr by chance do a membrane sweep? That can make you spot longer, or the check could have triggered early labor.
She didn't say anything about a membrane sweep, but it felt sharper than normal (compared to sunday, this one hurt more). Thanks for reassuring me, Ive never dealt with this so the length of the spotting made me concerned.
If it hurt more, it is possible she did a bit of sweeping and didnt say anything, some drs dont, which is kinda wrong, but ive heard of it happening plenty of times.
But yeah, just keep an eye on it, it could be nothing, could be from the exam, could be you are starting labor thanks to the exam lol.
She very well might have. It did last longer than normal. I even said "Ow!" and she quickly apologized. I wouldn't have minded so much, I'd just like to know, ya know. She said her prediction was next week sometime (around my due date), so I'm happy with that. I think after my bath, the spotting is starting to let up, but the contractions, pressure, and cramps haven't. I'm not really concerned with that, I doubt labor is starting...Sunday was worse and that didn't last long. Im just gonna drink lots of water and try to relax.
Oh and speaking of clots, I did have some of that earlier also. Thanks for mentioning that, it made me feel better
With DD1, they did a check on me when I went to the hospital at 37 weeks & my bloody show & plug came away with it. I actually bled for about 3 days afterwards. I did ring the hospital at the time to see if it was normal though, because it definitely had me a little freaked out
Your post sounds rather like how I'm feeling right now, except for the spotting!
And I thought that doing a membrane sweep was something that, I dunno, was more than just a finger? That really makes me wonder if that's what the nurse practitioner I saw did... I thought she was just not that good and couldn't find my cervix...? o.O
