And I have decided the world will end soon. H E double hockey sticks must have frozen over and we should all expect the end of the world now. My parents were semi happy! I have NEVER gotten a congratulations. I have NEVER had them ask me when I was due or the gender.... And their tones were a touch of happiness. None of the previous cold "oh" reactions. No "you should get an abortion". My dad did say "you are over 21 and you will have to clean up your own messes" but he even said that in a happy tone.... ***?????? And they even asked what I wanted (boy or girl) and how I was feeling.

I had a loss before my eldest... They knew about my first 4 pregnancies. Then I owned my mobile home, I was married, and while he did not make a ton, we made it and were able to support the kids without handouts (except when he lost his job and became a dead beat.).

Now, I live with my SO, as far as anyone knows there are no wedding plans (there is, but they don't know. We are gonna elope), and I am pregnant. In my family it is not acceptable to live with someone before marriage (lol although I always have) and no one has ever been pregnant without being married.

My friend was here when my parents called me back, so I decided to tell them (and not send a card)... Even she was shocked. She was around when I told them the other 4 times. She remembers how hurt I was.

So this is really shocking....

I'm so happy that they didn't flip out, sounds like even with what remarks were made - it was a step in the right direction Maybe by the next one you will get that first congratulations

I'm glad their reaction was better than you had hoped. Maybe they're feeling ready to be more supportive and involved in your life. Good for you for telling them.

Sorry, I was still in some shock... I need to clarify. My parents actually congratulated me in a semi happy tone after the "clean up your messes yourself" spiel... which was also in a happy tone. They also wanted to know due date and if I knew Gender.... I have never been asked either until either a month or two later, or never at all.

they actually asked questions.

Still in shock 19 hours later.

Congrats on getting a Congrats!!! Maybe they are mellowing with age!

DH calls me negative, but I always prepare for the worst (like it sounds you did!) and I love the unexpected positive surprises!

So glad it went well and they were supportive this time! I was really worried what my family would say with mine being so close and was surprised with the excitement.

I am so glad this went well! After all your dread of telling them, it came to a happy conclusion. Don't let your guard down though. Take it from me, just when you think they are being human, here comes the same old stuff. If you are ready for the bad, the good is just that much more of a surprise and enjoyable.
