I am so panicked right now! Lucy hasn't eaten in 3 hours so I pumped and barely got an ounce...this has been happening a lot lately and I have had to supplement with formula more and more.

I am trying not to panic...I wanted to EBF for at least 6 months...

maybe your pump is just needing to have a seal replaced or something. Babies are more efficient than a pump so Lucy is probably getting more than that. Try eating oatmeal, taking mother's milk tea, fenugreek. Good luck.

The more you nurse, the more milk you make. Try to nurse more often; that will help build the supply back up by your body 'learning' it needs to make more milk! I'm afraid that if you keep supplementing more and more with formula that baby might be entirely weaned before long.

The more you supplement the less your body will make so it's just going to get less and less. However, you can't base the amount of milk you make on how much you pump because babies are a lot better at expressing milk than machines are. I stopped pumping awhile ago but I was sometimes never able to get more than a drop even though my breasts were engorged!

I went on Reglan prescribed by my OB...I tried everything and pumping alone wasn't cutting it. After about 3 or 4 days my supply has gone from around 2oz every 3 hours to 6!! I was hoping to not need help but since he won't nurse my supply kept dropping, I really want to give BM for at least 12 months!!

Thanks Ladies. I am not supplementing on purpose, I have to if I can't pump enough milk to leave her so I can go to work. I seem to do okay pumping at work. I am a teacher so during summer break I can nurse a lot more....This morning I got 3 oz from one size and 2 from another, so I feel a little better about that...What is Reglan?

Reglan is a anti-nausea medication that it's side effect is increased milk production. Doctor's prescribe it to help with falling milk supply....It's safe, I actually took it while pregnant for nausea!!

5 oz is a good amount to pump at once. I pump while at work, and I get anywhere from 3-8 oz at a time. It depends on my stress level, how much I am eating/drinking, and how I am feeling...If I am sick, my supply seems to drop.

That is intersting about reglan.....If my supply drops too low, I will have to check that out.

Have you gotten AF back? I know a lot of people see a drop in supply around AF. I would try things like oatmeal, lactation cookies, or even a supplement called More Milk Plus. Fortunately I never had an issue, but that's what my doula suggested if I had problem.

I'm glad you posted about the Reglan Stacey. I wasn't too concerned about my supply until today when I only pumped 11-12 ounces while at work. I called my doctor about it and she wants me to try to drink 24 ounces of water in addition to what I already drink now and then to pump 10 minutes after Calvin is done nursing before I take him to daycare.
