Hey Everyone!

I'm looking for some tips on air travel with my baby boy. On Wednesday we will fly from Ft. Lauderdale to Boston and will be visiting family in Boston for almost 14 days. I read about the importance of feeding at certain times during the flight and he will be in his baby front carrier which should calm him.

Does anyone have any tricks on how to make it pleasant for the baby and the other passengers?

Also ~ We will be gone for 14 days. Do you know if there are services where I can rent some baby items? My parents with whom we're staying have a Pack N' Play and I plan to check the carriage/infant carrier and pack his playmat which he LOVES but I am worried about how he won't have a swing or bouncer seat. It's amazing how reliant we become on soem of these items to help calm the baby! He will likely be passed from person to person during our visit but sometimes Liam just likes some quiet time in a his swing or bouncer seat. I wonder if I could actually check the bouncer seat or the portable swing.. hmm... any thoughts? Thank you!

you wont be far from me!!! im in nh, but ill likely be at my parents camp, which has a commuter rail station 5 mins away(Newburyport)!

There is a place that rents them called Basic Baby Rentals, Inc... but on bouncy seats and swings, if you are going to be there 14 days, it would actually be cheaper to go to a consignment shop pick up a used one, then you could always resell it later on. The bouncy seat rental is $22 a week... might as well buy a brand new one for that. Swings are $40 a week.

heres the site though.. Price List

I agree...go to a kiddie second hand store (like Once Upon a Child) and maybe just buy a used one and then sell it back to them later, their bouncer seats run about 15 bucks or so.

How long is the fight? I think as long as you are nearby holding him and feeding when he is hungry he will be fine. Just feed him during take off and landing to avoid the ears popping or even a pacifier will work but I think the feeding is more effective.

Elisabeth went for her first flight about 2 weeks ago. The only advice I have is the advice my pedi gave me, and that was to give the baby a bottle during take off & landing for the ear popping. Elisabeth did fine, my mother snuggled her the whole time & she just looked around (probably thought, what's up with this strange car) and fell asleep.

Good luck!

Feed during takeoff & landing. I agree with buying the baby items secondhand. If you have a baby carrier & lots of relatives, you probably won't need a swing or bouncer anyway.

Many airlines won't let you have the baby in the carrier during takeoff & landing, FYI. This is an easy age to fly...the baby will probably sleep through the whole thing. It gets much harder once they're mobile!

Just flew with T babe a couple weeks ago. She did great. Nurse during landing and take off like said above and be ready to bored quickly cause they will let you go on first! Hope it all goes well.

we just flew to europe with our LO & it went wayyyyyyyy better than expected. like all the others mentioned, i just nursed during takeoff and landing and she never experienced an issue. the front carrier, in particular mei tai, was realllllllllllllly nice for her to sleep in and it took a great strain off my arms holding her the whole time. not sure if the baby bjorn would be such a great idea for a boy though.... ergo or mei tai might be less....constrictive....lol
