This is kinda a long story.. For the past few days I have been feeling a lil off.
Over tired, achy in the whooha, sore back, nauseous. Today while I was driving to
the dr I started having contractions. By the time I got there an hour later I was in tears.
They took me in imediately, hooked me up to the machine and sure enough contractions
4 min apart. They checked my cervix, and she said she could fit 3 finger tips in loosle on
the outside, but the inside was still intact. They left me on the machines for an hour and had me lay on left side and drink water for another hour, I was still having contractions but they were 6-7 min apart.
SHe thinks my boobs have something to do with the contractions, they are engorged and leaking, hot and red to the touch. Have any of you ever heard fo swollen boobs causing contractions?
I am so confused and lost.. lol But she said to take it easy for a few days, and if I started having contractions 4-5 min apart to go to the L and D .. Bah

I think I read something about boobs causing contractions in one of my baby books. Ugh. I cannot remember what one though. Something about leaking/lactating boobs can cause contractions, that's why breastfeeding mothers who are also pregnant shoudl be careful. Hmmm, I don't think I'm much help.

Sorry about the contractions. Hope they stop for good quickly!!

Hot red boobs is a symptom of mastitis.....do you feel flu-like at all? It can be a *itch to get rid of, if that's what it is.

Hope you find out what's going on, that's scary!

It could be mastitis.. they did a cruddy job of easing your fears Coral! They should have been a tad more descriptive of what they meant! I don't know what to say except BABY DAVID you keep baking away. It is FAR too early to come out and play! Hugs mama.Thinking about you. TAKE IT EASY 2NITE!

I also thought of mastitis when you described your symptoms. Take it easy and I hope you feel better soon.

Yikes! I'm sorry you are having issues with your boobs and contractions. Did they give you anything for an infection, or do they not think it's mastitis? I hope the contractions don't start back up. Good luck and keep us updated.

At home and rested. The dr didnt say anything about infection, I really dont think
she was very experienced, she had to call the lactation specialist because she didint
know you could lactate while PG.. o.O she told me not to express the milk from that
boob, but how am I sposed to get the duct unclogged if I dont. I am extremely
crampy today, she hurt me when checking me twice, I could have climbed the wall.. I
go back tuesday and I will ask to speak with the dr about all of this.. But I guess
until then I will just relax and take it easy.

Ouch! Sorry, that stinks. I hope the contractions stay away.
You can't express but what about standing on a warm shower and massaging that clogged duct?
Warm/hot compress on the area.

Had mastitis several times and it is no fun. The two things that worked for me were expressing and massaging it out in the shower.
Take Tylenol for the pain.

So you have a clogged duct and she said this? I mean there really isn't anything other than compression masssage (or nursing, which you obviously aren't) that will fix that. If left alone it could turn into full-blown mastitis....weird.

I'd maybe try contacting a local La Leche League and see if they have any advice. You can nurse for your entire pregnancy (if you have a 2nd child), so maybe doing some compression massage wouldn't hurt? I feel for you, you must be in a lot of pain!

I agree with everyone else, it totally sounds like mastitis. You should be on an antibiotic if it is. The cabbage is a great suggestion as well. Hopefully you can get some rest, and I hope you feel better soon!
