How did labor compare to what you were expecting?

Wow - Well my mother had told me to expect the worst pain I could imagine and she was right. Once my water broke that is. The contractions were probably worse than I imagined they would be but that is because I labored so long without dilating. Getting the epidural on the other hand ---I was freaked about the pain of that needle but it really didn't hurt very bad. When you want contractions to stop hurting that needle isn't a big deal. I expected pushing to be harder and longer but luckily I only pushed 12 min! And the post pardom wasn't as bad as I was afraid of either. I was possibly more afraid of it than the birth lol.

I was expecting a very long labor, but it was super fast! I also thought the epidural needle would hurt, but I barely felt it. The IV needle was worse! Also, I thought contractions would feel "like no other pain I've felt" which is what I'd been told. But to me, they felt just like insane period cramps.

Ummm... now I know why epidurals were invented (I didn't get one, almost did though)

It was just really awful... for a while it just felt like awful cramps, but towards the end things just got ugly... and the pushing... omg... not something anyone should do for as long as I had to

BUT... it was amazing and I loved my labor (after the fact LOL) It was a really amazing experience for me and my husband and I will try to do it again (even if adoption looks very tempting ahaahahahaha)

Well I was not expecting the pain of back labor. I had to get Pitocin as well which I wasn't expecting, and I asked for a dose of IV pain meds before that started. Once it wore off the back labor hit me full force and I got an epi. After that labor went along as I had expected...long but manageable.

I was a total wuss! Lol. I'm really good at taking pain...I use to go through bad period cramps without anything! So I assumed that that "prepared" me. HA! I was in tears...begging....for an epi. I also thought the epidural needle would hurt but I don't remember feeling it at all. Lastly, I thought laboring while sitting up would be better than laying down. Wrong. I had sooooo much pressure down there that it felt like I had to take the biggest crap of my life! Lol.

It was absolutely the most horribly intensely painful thing I have ever experienced. I am very good with pain, I have a high tolerance, and I can manage it without much problem. But labor was a hundred times worse than any pain I've ever felt before.

Mine went super quick. The contractions didn't hurt until I was about 7cm dilated. I didn't expect pushing to be as uncomfortable as it was - I was quite, ummm, vocal. Next time I'll work on screaming less.
