Taylor has gotten sent home the last 2 days for having 2 explosions at school. They say she's fussy and not really eating but she was fine last night. They also said some bug was going around the room last week (the way she said it, apparently I'm supposed to know this somehow!?!?). What can I give her to bind her up some? I have apples, and banana for her for lunch, anything else? I'm thinking BRAT diet, but we aren't on rice or toast yet. Any other suggestions?

Hi, I'm lurking here from the April 2011 PR. Ryan has had this for going on a 3 weeks now. The first 2 were because of the Augmentin he was on for ear infections, then he was good for about 3 days and then started with diarrhea again from a stupid stomach bug going around school. We finally got in to see his pedi Monday bc/he was having 7+ diarrhea diapers a day. They told us to do a modified BRAT diet...apples, bananas, rice cereal. No veggies at all. Also put him on lacto-free formula until his tummy settles down and Baby BioGaia (5 drops a day---you can get it from like CVS, Walgreens, etc in the pharmacy...just have to ask them for it). His pedi said this bug has been taking the little ones 2-3 weeks to fully recover and get well again....I'm sure hoping it doesn't last this long. After being on this diet for 1.5 days, his diarrhea has finally slowed down and we didn't have to do a bath/bed/clothes change at 3am, so hopefully we are on the mend! Hope your little one starts feeling better soon!

For mine apples have the opposite effect the loosen things up. I would try infant rice or oatmeal. For some cheese can do it too. If it is a bug and you do give her foods that stop the diarrhea, it will prolong the bug by keeping it in her system longer. If it is not a bug I would say teething.

I was going to suggest rice cereal too. Or some dairy, like cheese, but that really depends on the kid. For some Dairy makes their stools looser. For mine it plugs her up.

We had this problem a few months ago. I would give her rice cereal with bananas or apples. She had it for over 2 weeks. The dr also suggested giving her probiotic drops. She suggested BioGaia which I ordered off the internet.

ditto rice cereal and bananas.. My pediatrician also recommended pedialyte. I would call your ped, but I remember my ped suggested to replace formula (or bm) with pedialyte.
