A friend on FB posted that she and her son got the flu shot, and now he's sick.
Anyway, I told her I don't do flu shots, and she and another one of her FB friends said that their jobs MADE them get it. She says that her job says get the flu shot or get fired. Her friend said that she had to get it or go on suspension until it's done.

I have NEVER in my life heard of a company forcing a flu shot on its employees. Maybe I'm behind on the times, or I've been in education too long...

never heard of such a thing. are they in health care? Maryland is an employee at will state, so you can basically be fired for any reason here, unless you have a contract. It's really difficult to prove wrongful termination in Maryland.

never heard of it. I'm in healthcare; an RN at a hospital and it isn't mandatory for me. i really doubt they can MAKE you get it?

Yeah when Neely's brother joined the Navy he had to get a ton. As Christian Scientists, he had not had any as a child. Neely has never had a vaccine.

My FB friend is definitely not in healthcare. She works in a corporate office. As for her FB friend, I'm not sure what she does. I snooped on her page, but her occupation is not listed.
I would be beyond pissed if a company tried to force that on me.

Yep some of the hospitals here require their employees to get them, it seems unfair.

I've heard it being mandatory for health care workers, teachers, day care workers and people with jobs like that. Even they take into account religion and allergies. I can't have them because I'm allergic to them.

Never heard of it... but like some of the others said about certain jobs, it doesn't really surprise me.

I've heard of that but they usually still offer a waiver, or they might have to offer a waiver by law for religious or medical reasons. But at the same time, you can be fired for any reason at any time in this state.

Unless she signed that was ok in her contract they can't legally make her do it. Even healthcare employes who "have" to get it...CAN get out of it..its a pain but you can (I did when I was working as an RN)

My MIL is a NICU nurse, and has to get it every year. BUT that is totally understandable, since she is working with tiny little babies who can't risk catching anything!

I haven't heard of other occupations (besides medical) having to get a flu shot though.

I've heard of that here as well. I think it's only for health officials though

I'm in a medical field, they highly recommend it. When the whole "swine flu" broke out we were told that if we did not get the vaccination and were to contract it we would not be paid any sick time etc. I declined it anyhow. I highly doubt they can actually MAKE you, just make it a pain in the butt if you don't so to speak.
