Hey all!
We are approaching our LO's first birthday (omg!) and we haven't done an update in awhile... Please share how everything is going! Are you weaning? pumping? etc?

As for us, **weep weep** Annette has pretty much self weaned. She really only likes her boob before bed and in the morning. She knows how to hold her own bottle now so that really changed EVERYTHING! As of a week ago my right breast no longer producing milk so I'm only using my left (my fault, she prefers the left so I just neglected my right one!). I still pump once at lunch at work (just the left breast) but when I'm home I no longer pump. As of now she is on mostly formula and some of my breast milk stash. I REALLY wanted to make it to 1 year, which I think we will, but she's def not an exclusively breast milk baby anymore
How is everyone else doing?

Aww - Amy - you did great! Don't be so disappointed!!!

Well - as most of you know, we had been supplementing with formula since birth. I used to give him at least one 4-6 ounce bottle of formula a day. But - he doesn't take as much milk/formula as he used to - so he now doesn't really get supplemented, but he eats meals really well.

Anyway - I try to nurse him once a day, the rest is all pumping. I just dropped one pumping session, and my goal is to have him weaned onto cow's milk by the end of the year, starting around 11/14 (one month before his birthday)...

So - I now pump 4x a day instead of 5x a day (just started yesterday)... I'm looking forward to getting some freedom back.

He is taking less and less milk it seems - he is more interested in food. I think I"m ok with that - since he eats so well - we just try to make sure he gets the nutrition he needs in solids too.

Logan is still BFing 3 to 4 times a day. I have also started throwing in some cow's milk in a sippy cup during the day. Not much, just like 2 oz. maybe. He has obviously outgrown his milk sensitivity. YAY! For him booby time is more of a comfort than a hunger thing I think. He still nurses 4 to 6 times at night. He usually only wants it for a few minutes and he's back to sleep. My goal was 1 year but I don't know that we'll be able to stop. I don't know how to wean a child that is still so interested in nursing!

Raegen still EBF, she nurses 5 times a day. I will wean her close to her first birthday. My goal is to start cows milk a week before she turns one & have her weaned by the end of January...we'll see...

Lola is still an exclusively breast feeding baby. She nurses on demand when I am home, which ranges from very rarely a few times a day to usually about 10 times per day. I also pump at work, but only once now as she does not much care for bottles. She also loves her solids too I hope to breastfeed until two years old or when she self weans...

Britney only nurses once a day (first thing in the morning and for 4 minutes if I am lucky). I pump 3 times a day and mix it with her cereal. I also offer her a sippy cup with my pumped milk throughout the day. When she turns 1, I will stop pumping but still offer to nurse for that morning feeding for as long as she wants it.

I'm pretty shocked Annette is self weaning herself, alto she's a very independent girl and just loves to hold her bottle and be in control (oh no future control freak like her mom, grrreeaaat!).
Like you all mentioned, when she does nurse it's quick, like 4 or 5 mins max. Have any of you only just nursed from one breast? I just started doing it and it's working well but it's still just so weird to not use both, KWIM?

Zoey is still EBF, with solids sometimes. Table foods sometimes. It's going well. My supply dips, but usually works itself out. She nurses about 5-10 times a day. Depending on activities, and how she's feeling. Still on demand, and will continue till she self weans. The Leaky Boob on FB is a great resource for these questions, and if you still want to breastfeed, they could give you some great tips! I love that page.

You know - Something I'm noticing with Michael these last couple nursings, is I will offer him the breast - and he will look at it like W T F ? Then - he eventually latches on. But - he stares it down first! Sometimes he'll even go to latch on - stop, and look like "What is this???"

I'm thinking he may be done sooner than I am ready for him to be!!! Of course - I do mostly pump - but still!

Checking out some resources, it's very unlikely and rare that babies self wean this young. The just become distracted, and more difficult to nurse. They just want to practice new skills rather then just nursing. Perhaps try nursing in the same place each time, or give them a toy, or get a nursing necklace to diddle with as they nurse. Those are my suggestions. I'll try to think of more. Unless you are ready to wean, then that is up to you. LLL is also a great resource. HTH!

I only nurse from one breast. Gave up on the other one MONTHS ago... it was just awkward! One seems bigger than the other too... I get 1 ounce from that side, and 3 from the other in my "normal" pumpings.

I only nurse from one breast at a time. A lactation specialist I saw when DD1 was born recommended it so that's what I've always done. I offer the other side in the newborn days but both girls would just go for as long as they wanted on one side & be done so that is what has always worked for us. Raegen is a super fast nurser too, 5 mins. & she's pulled off & ready to go play. I mentioned in another post too that I nurse her standing up while walking around cuz if I don't she won't want to stay put to nurse. She nurses 5-6 times a day usually & eats table foods & baby yogurt & cereal in the mornings. I love BF but am looking forward to starting her on whole milk to see how she does & if she puts on more weight. She is very petite, opposite of DD1. So even though I know I'm producing enough milk for her I want to start giving her whole milk to add on more calories when the time comes instead of her water from a sippy

I still pump twice a day but Natalie rarely takes more than 2-3 ounces while she's at day care so I'm really just building a big stash for no apparent reason. Habit, I guess. I only pump at work and she just nurses when she wants when we are home on the weekend and at night. She would much rather eat solid food so I rarely nurse right when we get home. I think that was more of a comfort nurse anyways. She still loves before she goes to bed and when she first gets up. I go see her at day care at lunch and I can see her interest in nursing dropping off there already. She eats a solid food lunch, nurses for a few minutes and wants to play. I really haven't even thought about how long I'm going to nurse or if and when to wean. It's working for us right now so I'm going to keep going with it.

Sam only nurses if he wakes in the early morning and that's more for me because I know he will go right back to sleep if I nurse him. He drinks about 16oz of cows milk everyday and eats like a horse. He is very healthy and happy, and I'm happy to be almost done with nursing. It's been a great, low stress transition. I'm proud of myself that I made it the whole time until my dr gave her blessing to introduce whole milk. (I realize some ppl think its too early for milk, but I feel comfortable with the decision and he is very healthy and his iron levels were nearly perfect at his checkup.)

We are still full on nursing. No plans to wean, I can't imagine forcing her to stop. I love that I don't have to worry that she isn't getting what she needs via solids. I will nurse her as lOng as she likes. She has never taken a bottle. We will go directly to cup and cows milk.

Adeline is still mostly EBF. I've been looking at trying to start her on hemp milk since she still has thee dairy allergy. I am hoping to be weaned by the first week of January.I am hoping it will not be too much of a challenge to wean her, because she loves to nurse. I am not sure if that is realistically possible, but DH is coming home on R&R, and I would really love to be able to eat whatever I want. I would probably try to go longer if he wasn't coming home, but I am also thinking I need to give it up for my own health, because I have been losing way too much weight with it.

We still nurse constantly. Amelia eats tiny pieces of most things now, but only drinks boobie, and water in her sippy cup...but she's really not all that interested in it. Once in a while she'll drink water from a regular cup, held by us, and very occasionally some water in a bottle.
