So - I'm planning to start the transition to Whole Milk soon. Question - my MIL said something about there being certain brands we should avoid because of hormones... anyone know anything about this???

Not sure about brands, per se, but we get organic for the kids. My hubby and I still drink regular milk (skim) because organic is so expensive. With just the 2 drinking milk we go through SO much milk, I am sure when Ruby starts up it's going to be crazy, not to mention we'll have 3 kinds of milk at all times---skim, 2% and whole!

I was told Oberweiss also - but that's twice the price of regular whole milk! Is organic milk that expensive too?

Although I love the idea of having a milkman - lol

I don't think it's quite twice as much. But yeah, pretty expensive. Oberweiss isn't organic but it is natural I think? I have a friend who gets it and swears it tastes better. But then you also have the glass bottles to worry about.

Most grocery stores have their own organic brands now (Target, Meijer and Jewel do) which is less expensive than Stonyfield or Horizon, for instance.

When we switched DS1 to whole milk we did organic. I didn't even think about it with Logan. Of course he's only got a ounce or 2 here and there.

ya, oberweiss is natural... and the skim milk doesn't taste like skim - its so good! Buts expensive!

I guess the way I think - is that I'm not giving my son organic meat - so he is getting those hormones anyway I have some deciding to do!!

I think with the milk it is a little different, because some of the antibiotics that the cows are given can end up in the milk. Dairy cows are also given hormones to stimulate milk production. I am not 100% sure, but I think their may be less hormones on the meat end because it is a different type of cow used for that.
