I have the Medela Freestyle but, it just wasn't strong enough, it would take me an hour to pump each time so, I rented a hospital grade Medela.
I am planning on pumping when I go back to work. I feel as though I'll be able to pump about 2 times while I'm at work for the 8 hour work day.
I'm nervous about my supply changing and having to then supplement.
A few questions:
- how has pumping worked with you back on the job?
- are you able to get as much if you're not pumping as frequently?
- how long are you planning on pumping/breastfeeding your baby?
I am not back at work yet, but I pumped exclusively for a year with my 4 year old. Some tips: make sure there is a lock on the door of the room you will be pumping on. I had a do not disturb sign on my office door that I would put out when pumping and yet people would try to come in anyway. Thank goodness for the lock on my office door! For me, supply was not an issue as long as I pumped twice while at work. But I am an overproducer, and I had established a good supply before going back. I would recommend working out a schedule at home if you can that is similar to what you will be doing at work and see how it goes for a week. If your supply stays good, you will probably be fine at work. It can also help to have something that smells like baby or a picture of your little one to keep with you while you pump.
I am not at work but I also EP. I too overproduce, but I am easily able to keep my supply up with pumping every few hours. If you pump right before you leave for work, and right when you get home, the 2 times you can pump at work would make it about 3 hours or so between pumping. That is as often as I have ever pumped. I took fenugreek and ate oatmeal for breakfast for a while when I was having supply issues and now everything is perfect. There are things you can do if your supply starts to dip.
