I was substituting my (clean) finger for a pacifier earlier today when I couldn't readily access a pacifier and I felt a really sharp edge along Leila's gumline.... should I be getting ready for some teething pain or is it it normal for a newborn's gumline to feel sharp and hard in certain places? I couldn't get her to open her mouth and let me see to know for sure :/

It's rare for them to teeth this early, but not impossible. I've even heard of babies born with a tooth... rare, but can happen. Is it VERY sharp? When my girls' teeth popped out, they felt very very sharp, like almost cut-your-finger type sharp.

i too have heard about the rarity of babies being born with teeth, but those gums are very hard/sharp explains why if your bfing and you get an incorrect latch you feel like you want to die!!!!!

My mom found my first tooth at 3 weeks old but thinks I was born with it. it could also be calcium deposit or calcium something. Sorry not sure of the correct name but I've heard of this happening.

Thanks ladies! I guess I was just imagining things because now I can't find it!! Either way, I'm stocking up on orajel because shes already gnawing on pacifiers and and my finger versus just sucking. Her 1-year old niece began teething REALLY early, like 3 weeks or month, so I want to be prepared!!

Wow. I've not really heard of that happening this early. My first daughter popped her first tooth at 3 months and I thought that was early. Interesting!

My little sister was born with her 2 bottom teeth.

However I don't think these are teeth though if you can't feel them now J has spots where it looks like teeth are going to pop through. I remember that with DS1 too.. but he didn't get his first tooth till he was 10 months old.
