I still pump about 24 ounces a day during the week, a little less on the weekend (less chance to pump) - I noticed that Michael has been blowing through his milk the last couple of days. I'm now done nursing, so I'm thinking now that I'm only pumping, I'm going to start producing less? Like I was getting over 5 ounces during my first work pump before, and it seems that I am getting less than 5 now..

Anyway - instead of putting him back on formula (I used to supplement) - I was thinking about adding a sippy of Whole milk a day... I still want to give him EBM until he is 1 year - but, would it hurt to add in a sippy of Whole milk at this time? He is 11 months, 1 week today, and has been eating well rounded meals for well over a month now.

Its either that - or I start supplementing him with formula once every couple days - but I'm not sure he will even like formula anymore!

I think giving him a sippy cup of whole milk once a day is fine. Has he had whole milk before?

He's had yogurts with whole milk in them - but he has never had it straight. He hasn't had any sensativities so far though...

Today I sent over to my parents house - only 17 ounces (I'd normally send over 22) - they sometimes waste - so I figure if they run out - they can try the formula and tell me how that worked first... but I think he is ready for whole milk. Now - we just have to figure out what kind we are going to give him. I really like the idea of oberweiss - but its so pricey!

It seems like he has always done really well on foods, so I don't think it would be a bad thing to do the whole milk. I would just introduce it slowly.

Good luck!

I would do the whole milk too. My supply has dropped & her doctor told me to go ahead & do whole milk as well as the nursing. She had a sippy of whole milk today & nursed 4 times. I plan on slowly introducing more whole milk more & more the next two weeks & drop most of my nursing sessions. My DD had her routine 9-12 month blood draw done already & her iron levels are good. If your guy is eating good then he probably has good iron levels too.

Sam has been drinking whole milk for a couple months now and he has done great with it! He LOVES it! I try to keep it to no more than 18 oz a day, but he gobbles it down. You have done awesome with the pumping and nursing, girlie!!

I think whole milk is the way to go too. You are so close so I wouldn't bother going back to formula for such a short time and then over to whole milk.

Thanks girls!

Ok now - but I'm concerned about something else related.. he has seriously been SUCKING DOWN the bottles. He eats really well - so I really don't think he is that hungry! But - he took 7 ounces this morning, then 5 before his nap at 11, and when I called to check on him he had just woken up from his nap and was getting 5 more. He'll norpamlly take 6 more before bed. What do peds normally say is too much milk (whole milk)?? Would 22 ounces be too much? Will he be taking less whole milk do you think than breast milk? We did try to give him a bottle of formula yesterday - and he took an ounce and that was that.

Most doctors recommend between 16-24 oz. of whole milk per day with the focus of there nutrition being on food. Breastmilk amount & whole milk amount vary in comparison because of the composition & how it is absorbed. When my DD1 started whole milk I always just gave her 2 10oz sippys a day & water at other times when she was thirsty. I plan on doing the same for DD2 once she is fully weaned.

Thanks! Well - he got 5 ounces yesterday of whole milk, and maybe 16/17 ounces of breast milk. I think i will do that until I run lower on breast milk - and then I will start to give him more whole milk/less breast milk - but will try not to exceed 22 ounces or so.

Ditto on what was said above .... Sam gets about 18oz a day. You don't want to give too much whole milk because it has lots of protein.
