Let me start by saying - i'm ready to be done!!! But - of course, will do what I need to do.

I introduced cow's milk to Michael last weekend. He gobbled down a bottle of whole milk. Since then - he will take sips here and there - but if I put it into a bottle, he gets p i s s e d.

So - I think I am going to talk to my MIL tonight, and tell her to start putting an ounce of whole milk per every 4 ounces of breast milk.

I guess I produce the tasty stuff! Hopefully he will start to take the whole milk with my EBM!

I think that's a good idea to mix it with an ounce of cows milk and keep adding a little more each day. He is getting a lot from solids and won't drink nearly as much cows milk as breast milk so don't sweat it. If he is eating well at the table, the milk is added nutrition.

I'm not so worried that he isn't going to get enough milk - as he WANTED the EBM, was fussing, gave him the cow's milk - didn't want it... finally gave him some EBM - and he gobbled it down!

I'm not getting as much breast milk these days - so then I worry that I will give him an ounce of cow's milk in his 4 ounce bottle, and he won't want it. He doesn't seem to care for formula anymore..

I'll have to give it a shot though!

When we switched DS1 to whole milk at a year he took it well for maybe a month. Then I started having to flavor it for him to even take a drink (with strawberry or chocolate). Then he would only drink about half. So I just stopped. I figured he was getting what he needed from solids.

I was able to get my older daughter to half BM and half Whole milk but I couldn't get her to drink just whole milk. Finally I tried 2% thinking it was maybe the thickness of whole she didn't like, and she drank it fine. Once she'd been on 2% for a few weeks I was able to switch to whole milk.

Have you tried giving him a sippy of whole milk just with his meals? Maybe he associates bottle feeding with your breastmilk so doesn't want the whole milk from there. It has been slow going with us at too. My goal every day is to offer her a sippy of whole milk about 1/2 way through every meal & try & get 5-6 oz. in her. I also give her it at snack time. We do one snack in the afternoon. She takes lots of sips while eating but I have to work to get her to get to the 5-6 oz. after meal is over. I'm hoping she just starts chugging it soon cuz this putting the sippy in her mouth all day is time consuming. Keep us posted on how it goes for you guys!

I was just wondering about this. Brit will be one on the 17th. She nurses once (first thing in the morning) and then I pump three times a day. I offer her a sippy cup throughout the day and then put 12 ounces in her meals (4 oz per meal which I mix with cereal and food). I am planning on dropping my afternoon pump at the end of the week. I think I might do one part whole milk 3 parts pumped milk to start with. I hope she doesn't reject it because I am ready to stop with all of this pumping!!!

I saw your post - so I tried this last night. He took a couple sips (not even an ounce) and kept throwing the sippy on the floor. I'll keep trying to give him milk during meals in a sippy.

Last night - I did have some success with giving him 4 ounces of ebm, along with 1 ounce of whole milk. He drank it up.

My plan is to work on him more with it over the weekend, and then instruct my parents and inlaws to start doing the same while I'm at work. Maybe by the 14th, he will be on mostly cow's milk. Then I will have to work with him on using just a sippy. Oh the challenges!!
