What do you think of this? Court rulings in Germany have determined that it is considered bodily harm, and now doctors there who perform the procedure without medical cause can be charged.

Religious circumcisions are crimes says court - The Local

I have onions on this, but I'm not really into bringing those opinions onto this board. I'll be keeping an eye on how this story pans out with the rest of the world for sure though... it's interesting.

My thought is I'm glad I don't live in Germany.

Definitely interesting!

We chose not to circumcise, so obviously I'm personally not 'for' having it done. However I have no problem with those who do choose to have it done either, and to consider it a crime seems a bit harsh in my opinion.

Interesting.
Article says it still has to be brought to higher courts to be made a crime.

Looks like it was started due to a 4 year old being circumcised and having issues. Even those who are for circumcision, aren't usually in favor of it being done on older children.

I can't really comment, because there's so much more I want to know before I make a statement, and I"m far too lazy (read not that interested) to go do the reasearch right now.

Interesting for sure. I really don't care what your (general) son's penis looks like, so I'm not sure why anyone is concerned with the state of my sons' penis.

I don't really see why it's anyone else's business if parents choose to circumcise or not. That aggravates me.

Hehehehe, sorry, but I couldn't help but giggle.

I have opinions as well. I am a non-circ'r. Although I don't care whether someone has their kid's circ'd or not, these are my reasons for not:

1. other than for medical reasons I won't do it. I don't see the need for it to be done.

2. I like keeping bodies as natural as possible.

3. I kind of look at it the same way as ear piercing. It is cosmetic, and body altering. I will leave the decisions up to my kids until they are old enough to understand. My oldest was 4.5yrs old when she got her ears pierced, and we discussed it first. (again, to each their own..)

4. With the rate in which male babies get circ'd this day and age, I truly believe that circumcision will become obsolete, or at the very least there will be more non then done. So, that previous fear for parents that in the locker room my kid is going to look different is almost obliterated.

5. As a women myself I have been with both who have been done and not done. I always found it to feel better when the man was not done. ( I haven't slept with a lot of guys though, fyi lol)

Again, to each their own. I don't judge either way.

For me, this is not a moral, legal, or parental debate on whether circumcision is right. It is about denying parents a choice, whether it be for religious beliefs or another reason.
Whatever one's views are on the necessity of the procedure, I find it ridiculous that those who do it are threatened with jail. Where will they draw the line? Circumcision is bodily harm, but abortion is legal? What about parents who choose to not vaccinate? What about those who, because of their religious beliefs, refuse blood transfusions or other medical intervention for their children??
Once again, God bless the USA.

I too feel that it's just one more choice being taken away from the parent. I don't feel like anyone should have the right to tell me what I can and cannot do to my child.
