I notice this could be a bit of a sensitive topic, but I am curious what everyone will be doing and what has worked before for our btdt moms. No debating please.
Have you decided what kinds of methods you're ok with and not ok with? Will you spank? If you have other kids, what kinds of disciplining methods work well with them?
I have been kind of thinking about how we will discipline Lily when she is older. It came up in a conversation the other day and we discussed some things we would use with Lily. We decided spanking is acceptable, but, and this is a big but, we will never, ever do it out of anger.

We pretty much tell them NO, if they don't listen to that I count to 3, if I get to 3 it's either a timeout or spank on the butt (depends what the offense is)... Unfortunately I threaten alot, but don't follow through... I do redirect when they are to young to understand a punishment.
I am not completely against spanking, but I don't like to do it. It's kind of a last resort for me. Like you said though, it's never done out of anger. My DD has always responded pretty well to time outs, or just getting on her level and talking to her to make her understand what she is doing wrong. She has always been pretty well behaved and responsive to us talking things through with her. I think its all about experimenting to find the best thing that works for each kid. I am fully aware that Owen could be completely different. So I will just see what works best for him. But generally, we try redirection, timeouts and talking it through.

Before I was a parent I said I'd never spank my child. That being said I've only done it a handful of times, it's my last resort and sometimes it doesn't really work, but I use it more of a threat than anything.
We do time outs as well as getting down on her level and explaining what she did wrong. I find that it works more than spanking, and it doesn't make me feel guilty like spanking does.
I'll spank but like everyone else said, not out of anger. I'm hoping timeouts will work and I like to try to explain things because kids are so much smarter than most people think and I always hated it when I was yelled at and spanked for doing something but never told why I shouldn't do it.
