Took Adele to the pediatrician for the 2nd time in 5 days. She had a virus on Friday, today it is the croup and ear infection.

That said, the pediatrician OK'd Adele to return to daycare and even gave me a note to give to the daycare if there was a concern. I wasn't aware that there was a concern to begin with but I took the note just in case.

Is this something kids get at daycare? She just started last week, two half days, and the rest of the time she was with family who is sick with a cold which is what she had on Friday at the first visit. Can croup manifest itself from a cold? Or is croup, croup to begin with and something she had to have gotten from daycare?

Croup is almost always caused by a cold or flu virus.
I'm sure that they warned you already but watch her like a hawk for breathing issues over the next few days. Croup can be dangerous and cause airways to close.
Moist air helps a,lot too. If you have 1 put a humidifier or cool mist vapor in her room.

Hope she feels better soon!

Katelynn had croup for the first time the beginning of this year. She was not sick before and went to bed perfectly normal. She woke up screaming and not breathing very well. She was really struggling. It scared the daylights out of me, I watched her for about 60 seconds before calling 911. (I had no idea what was wrong with her). The paramedics pretty much brushed me off saying that I was over reacting. So I took her into the ER myself. She did in deed have croup and the breathing trouble was caused by it. They gave her a drink with steroids in it and they made her so hyper. We went home and she slept pretty much all day. The next few days she had a horrific cough one that I wouldnt feel comfortable going anywhere with. She finally felt better after a few days. It was so scary. I hope she feels better soon.

I am very surprised that your Pedi Okayed her to return to daycare if she has croup.

That is one thing that is listed as "not acceptable" for kids to go to daycare if they have it. (At least with the two places Brynlee has gone.) It's very contagious. Other kids can get it if she sneezes near them. Or if she touches something and then the other kid puts it in his mouth, etc.

I hope she feels better ASAP. Croup and an ear infection are no fun, poor baby.

I have no experience with croup, exception that everyone that hears my kids cough think it's croup. Croup and an ear infection are no fun. I hope she feels better soon.

Croup is an inflammation of the vocal chords and is caused by a virus. It can come from a cold, but it is not always accompanied by a cold. I was told once, there are only a few different strains of the virus that cause croup and once you have it a few times, you'll probably never get it again. This is BS because my oldest son gets it all the time.

Thanks everyone. Her steroid is working already and the antibiotic for the ear infection is underway as well. We hope she will be better by tomorrow or the next day. Maybe we caught it super early? Anyway, we've had a humidifier going strong since she manifested symptoms of a cold last Thursday. I had just boxed it up and put it away the week before as we were using it regularly for white noise and with the new baby on the way, felt that was one more layer of our routine that we just didn't need in our day to day routine (maintenance, etc.) so we put it away and blah blah blah, back to humidifier duty.
