I am so irritated. My inlaws just got back from a 10 day holiday through eastern Canada and north eastern US. They got back late last night. Irritating thing #1: Guess who was kocking on my door at 7:30am?? Hoping to see the baby before she had to go to work. MIL. Irritating thing #2: They bought Avery a bunch of clothes (great), but also a Christmas Dress. I already told my MIL before she left that I got Avery's Christmas dress for her and even showed it to her!!! So annoyed.

This is something my MIL would do. I can't stand her. She lives a couple miles away, so she's always trying to come up with ways to come over. She really doesn't give a crap about William, her favorite is my husband's first daughter and she makes no secret of it.

Oh that is so irritating! I probably would have told her to come back later or not even answered the door at all.

Katelyn has 2 Christmas dresses this year and did last year too.
I just put 1 on her for Christmas Eve and 1 on her for Christmas day.
I would having a talk with MIL about boundaries (again?) She really needs to respect your space. I REALLY had to get ****** and put my foot down before everyone figured out I was dead serious about the nieces and nephews being over here before 9am.

7:30 am for a visit!! Geez that is rude!

And the Christmas dress thing is overstepping when she knew you already had a dress! Do you do things for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day? Or do you visit both your families for the holiday? Maybe you could just let Avery wear the dress to see your husband's side of the family and then use yours for your side of the family?

The showing up unannounced at 7:30 int he morning would have me cursing!

The buying her a bunch of clothes and a Christmas dress? I'd be saying thank you. Maybe it's just me, but who cares if she has a second Christmas dress? Have her wear one on Christmas eve, one of Christmas day. A girl can NEVER have too many cute Christmas dresses. That's not something to be annoyed over IMO.

I guess the dress thing just makes me feel like she thinks the one I had was not good enough. We do have two events to go to though so she can just wear one to each.

An ro- Avery is usually up for the day between 7 and 7:30. We were just getting up and getting breakfast on the go.

Oh man that IS early. My MIL would probably do something like that.

My mom got Brynlee a Christmas dress last year after I had already bought her one that I wanted her to wear for her pictures and for Christmas. I don't think she ended up wearing it :/

I would probably just take pictures in it and call it a day, lol. Or if she can wear the one you got her with you and your family and the one MIL got her with DH's family, I dunno.

That sucks. I hate my in-laws, so seeing them that early would ruin my day!

My grandma gave DD1 a Christmas dress that she has had since I was a little girl that is quite.... 80s lol. Anyway, I got her a dress that I picked out, but put her in the one grandma gave me when we were with her on Christmas. That way she was happy and I didn't have to keep my kid in a dress with shoulder pads (lol not really, but that would have been great) all Christmas long. I hope you get it figured out!

oh I bet it wasn't like that at all. she probably saw it and thought it was beautiful and couldn't leave the store without it.

and on the time, yeah that's early if you just are usually *just* getting up then. (but at least you know she's loving on the baby and happy and excited)

OK, 7:30 is way too early for a visit.

As far as the dress goes, try not to read too much into it. If all else fails use it as a back up dress and put her in it if something gets spilled on the first one, or use it for the two different events, or something like that. A girl can never have too many pretty dresses.

Haha, have you ever seen that ECard that says "When you dislike someone, everything they do annoys you, like "look at the ****** over there eating that cracker like she owns the place!!".
SO I know where you are coming from, especially if your relationship isn't the best. None of us know her, you do, so you would know better than us if she was coming from a manipulative place with it. Something my Mom would totally do. Other people would be like "OH, that was nice of her" when really, I know she has a motive. So, I get it.

I was just thinking the same thing!!!!

Anyway, my MIL has done this sort of thing often. In September she bought little rose a bunch of 6 month warm weather clothes - like shorts and t-shirts - right as we were entering fall (50-60s). I said thank you. She has learned to now give me gift receipts for such gifts. My mother on the other hand? Not so much.

Be happy for the extra clothes. Wear the dress or not, save it to regift if you want, but let her spoil her grandbaby too.
