I wasn't planning on starting this early. But a lot of times when my little guy is peeing or pooping he tells me and grabs his diaper. He will say pee, poop, or sometimes just potty. Everytime I try to rush him to the bathroom to sit on his little potty (which I bought recently when he started telling me about potty). But I never catch it in time. He doesn't tell me till he is already going or has gone.

Any ideas on what I should do? Don't want to dismiss him when he is telling me he is going or went, but I feel like putting him on the potty afterwards isn't really productive.

I don't have any advice but am interested to hear if anyone does because we are at the same stage. Sometimes he will tell me before but if I get the potty out he doesn't use it even though he has to go. He waits till I put the diaper back on.

It is productive to take him into the bathroom when he says it. Eventually he'll get to the point where he can tell you before he's gone. It doesn't sound like he's quite ready yet, but close!

I've asked Adele to tell me when she goes simply because I want to change her immediately and I do not always smell it right away. We don't plan to potty train until later this year.

I agree with Rachel. Still take him so he can learn the connection.

Even if you weren't planning to start, sounds like he has started already!

Put him there, you'll be surprised at the results.
About a month ago I did potty training bootcamp with my babe and he is now about 95% done(including 2 nights now diaper free).
