I remember when I was pregnant with dd being told not to eat deli meat. Does anyone know why? I can't remember? Is it really all that bad?

Listeriosis. I eat it though I just use good judgement.

ive heard that too and read about it... i dont actually know why but i looked it up from net and it just says : Do not eat hot dogs or luncheon meats (including deli meats such as ham, turkey, salami and bologna) unless they are reheated until steaming hot.

Maybe something about the bacteria? I dont know, i still eat hot dogs... XD

You can get the roasted chicken sandwich or just make sure that they toast the sandwhich.

I personally think deli meats are too processed and that is why I don't eat them, not because of listeria.

^^ if deli meats sit out too long the bacteria multiplies quickly. The processed nitrates in hot dogs are the worry.

I didn't change my diet that much with my first pregnancy and I don't plan to with this one. With all of the rules and regulations in place to insure public safety when it comes to the food industry, the risk is soooooo slight that I don't worry about it. I even still enjoy my sushi as often as I can. The Omega-3s are good for baby. I just go light on the tuna.

Its funny because i just talked about this withthe nurse educator yesterdat. She said all meats need to be heated to 180 degrees...lunch meat says precooked but you dont know how hot so she said to be safe microwave it then you can refridgerate it and you should be ok

I eat subway all the time and will continue to just like I did my first pregnancy. I WISH there was a blimpie here because at least they store the meat refridgerated and they cut it right in front of your face.

We don't have Blimpie here but we do have a Jersey Mike's and they do it that way. I ate there all the time when I was pregnant with Jax.

It's safe as long as you heat it up. I don't like it heated up so I just stay away from it during pregnancy.

My doctor said not to eat hot dogs or deli meat uncooked due to listeria. He said they were fine if they were cooked.

I've never followed this rule. If you get your lunchmeat from a deli counter at a reputable grocery store, your chances of getting bacteria infested meat is slim to none. I will eat deli meat through pregnancy, and hot dogs. But I won't go to a local farm, or local corner store for it.

I am not a huge deli meat fan but I haven't given up hot dogs or plan to anytime soon, I ate them throughout my pregnancy with my son with no problems, who eats a non cooked hot dog anyway? I actually eat more turkey dogs than hot dogs but really I think the risk is so very low. I do miss sushi and am avoiding it due to being uncooked and mercery levels in some of the fish.

I had never even heard of thar rule until pg #6 and since I had eaten it all the way through my other pregnancies I'm not too worried about it.
