Dd has been in pain the last couple of days because no matter how much we burp her she just can't let the gas out. It is such a struggle so we decided to get gripe water. We think she's refluxing because she has so much gas as her tummy has been very bloated.
We've given her the gripe water twice now and she seems more calm, especially since I've started pumping before feeding her but she's still not really burping. We think it's the chamomile zonking her out, which is great because she had been able to sleep peacefully but we really want her to let the gas out. Any suggestions?

Have you tried sitting her up and holding her under her chin to burp? Sometimes that's the only way to burp Clara and it prevents her from falling asleep because she's not comfy cozy against me,

I did. This girl does not let go of those burps. This morning I had to burp her then put her on her belly, then back and massage her tummy and then rub her back again and finally burp her again and she let out two small burps and refluxed. I wish she would just burp so her tummy wouldn't be so tight.

I am not there to see it and you have to trust your feelings but I think what you described sounds normal.

My pedi said that babies gut will look bloated until 4 months because their stomach muscles are not toned yet. My baby has a huge buddha and skinny legs so I thought something was up too. Also some spitting up is normal and it is not always reflux. Very few babies actually get real reflux especially if it is breastmilk (like 1%).

Some babies are hard burpers. That is a tough one. I would say don't be afraid to put a little power behind your hand when you burp. People think babies are so fragile and sometimes they don't actually do enough to get the job done. If you are doing that already then maybe she just isn't swallowing that much air.

Clara rarely burps more than once so if you're getting at least one, I'd say that's good. Also babies bellies are supposed to be bloated right now like the above poster said. Clara also has a big Buddha belly.
