Will you see an OBGYN/Midwife/Doula during your pregnancy?

I'll be having a combo. Our prenatal care and person attending our birth will be our long time Family Practioner MD. Our insurance does not cover any midwife at all sadly. However, my sister is a midwife and she'll be informally consulting on my care.
Last, a dear friend is a professional doula. She'll be attending the birth-- we'll have to work something out financially. I don't want a "freebie" just because she's a friend, but at the same time I don't have pre-natal service or home visits so we'll have to hammer out a fair price.

I forgot to answer the question. LOL! I am having the same OBGYN that I had with all my previous pregnancies.

My family Dr. will be doing my prenatal care and delivering my baby. He's the main OB around here. I am thinking I will see a midwife though, I was going to call around after our 8 week ultrasound.

I'm not really sure yet. Before getting pregnant I always had my heart set on going with a certified nurse midwife and delivering at a free-standing birth center, which is just down the street from the hospital. I toured it and met with the midwife that runs it a few months ago and got really excited about it. But now that I am pregnant I am starting to get paranoid about things going wrong, so i don't know. I have an u/s this week so I will probably wait and see how things go after that.

Sammy, I wouldn't worry about things going wrong! Especially if the birthing center is right down the street from the hospital, you'll be fine
For me, I'm just not sure. I was 100% set on a homebirth with the baby I lost. We'd met with a midwife that I loved and I was super excited. Its been a pretty rough year though, and I'm scared that I don't have the strength/support to do it at home...so, I'm kinda putting off thinking about it until we have an u/s at 8 weeks and know everything is fine, I may start to feel differently.
I was born at home, and my hospital experience with DD was horrible, so I'm really hoping I can feel more comfortable with a homebirth.

I'm thinking I'm going to go to an OB to do the initial US and to get an exact due date (haven't had my AF since December). My daughter was actually delivered by a midwife and was a waterbirth. While I LOVED having a waterbirth, there were some complications due to the midwife not making the emergency call and sending me to the ER. Overall though, we're leaning towards another midwife....with a LOT of interviewing.

We will use my OB because insurance won't cover a midwife or home birth. I plan to have a doula at the birth, though.

Have any of ya'll ladies experienced a VBAC? I have had 2 c-sections..and I was curious. I believe my doctor will not perform VBACs but I'm not for sure.

Because mine will be a high(er) risk pregnancy, I'll see a combination of my OB and my perinatologist. I'm not quite certain yet, since I haven't been officially discharged by my RE, how often I'll consult with the peri throughout this pregnancy but should get some info on that after first OB appt around 8wks.

Our practice rotates between midwife and OBs and deliver at a hospital.

A midwife is the norm here, so we'll see them, and be delivered by one at the hospital.

I am planning my second home-birth with a certified professional midwife (CPM). I'm sooo excited! I will also be seeing a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) who is in a practice with an OB, just for for 2 visits to establish medical backup. (My midwife requests all her patients seek out and become established with medical backup)
My mom and I are both Birth Doulas. She attended my last birth, and will probably attend this one as well. A Birth Doula does not provide medical care of any kind though, so I don't think they should really be included in this category.. (Doulas and Midwives often get confused with each other, but they are very different rolls!)

Yay for more home-birthers!! There is a Home-birth board here on JM. It's a bit slow at times, but come on over an introduce yourself

I'm sorry you had such a scary experience! We just had a consultation with my new midwife and it lasted over 2 hours! My husband is a critical care paramedic and we both had lots of questions for her to make sure she is qualified! With over 35 years of experience under her belt; She is
