I'm not even sure how to word this question.... My heart beat just feels different, for lack of a better word. Like, you know when your nervous and you can sort of "feel" your heart beating?? It feels like that pretty much all the time, except I'm not nervous... Could it be that my heart is just working harder because it's pumping blood for me and the baby? Is this something I should talk to my doctor about? I don't remember this during my last pregnancy, but then again I had a lot of stress and anxiety during my last pregnancy so I could have just attributed it to that.

if your pulse races suddenly (even while at rest) or you feel like it skipped a beat you definitely need to mention it to your OB. I had pregnancy induced arrhythmia with Savannah, and it's fairly common (like 20% of women get it, although not all may notice it) but there's a tiny percentage for whom it is actually a very serious condition. OBs will often send you for a cardiologist consult just to be on the safe side...

Hmmm... maybe I'll mention it to her just in case. I don't know if I'd necessarily say it's racing, but it just feels different... I just took my resting pulse and it was 74- which is average for a woman. I guess I should say that my heart beat feels stronger- if that makes any sense at all.

You are carrying a lot of extra blood while pregnant. That is probably the reason! I notice my heart rate a lot more now...

yeah it's probably fine and you're just noticing your heart working harder to pump the extra blood, but i always think safer to mention and let your doc decide whether to be concerned....in my case i could be asleep (or just sitting quietly) and my pulse would shoot up from a resting in 70s to 120-140 like i was working out, and sometimes it would skip a beat. It scared the crud out of me, but once she was born all was back to normal, thankfully.

Thank you Shasta! That article calmed my nerves. I noticed that I was having this earlier this morning and, of course, my mind went to the worse possible things that could happen!

Lara, mine did that too and it scared the piss out of me!
I hate that part of pregnancy...it spikes up my anxiety..but it's a normal part of being pregnant (unless you have a medical condition)--either way, bring it up to your doctor but many preggos deal with it and it sucks.

My resting heart rate (not pregnant) is always high. I have tachycardia which is something I see a cardiologist for yearly. So pregnancy is hard on me. I also suffer from a panic disorder ( I am SO MUCH fun! lol) so feeling my heart beat faster this early in pregnancy is unnerving. I know I went through it last time though and everything was just fine.

I have dysautonomia so my heart rate increases like crazy sometimes when I get up or am just standing there. I definitely get the stronger, faster beats when pregnant though.

I had that with Emma bad. This pregnancy I notice that I feel like I have been jogging in place when I haven't. Like my heart is working harder.
With Emma I was sitting on the couch and could actually feel my heart pounding, and skip a beat. I'm not joking. I was freaking out. It lasted for half an hour or so.... then never happened again.

I already have an issue where my heart skips a beat a few times a week (not sure if it's due to asthma or not) but my doctors have heard it and don't seem to be too concerned with it. Which I think is weird seeing as how my mom had heart issues and now has a pacemaker. I guess if it starts to get worse now that I'm pregnant I'll see a cardiologist.
