So this is a bit of a vent and I have mostly been lurking besides my intro post so I hope this vent is well accepted even though I have not been very active on the board yet...

I have not stopped throwing up for a week straight now... it has gotten so bad the past 5 days that I haven't been able to work, drive, do anything let alone take care of my 3 year old. I had to keep him home from preschool all week because i literally couldn't get out the door. I can't even keep down sprite. It is just constant vomiting. I had hoped it was just a virus and it would pass but after a trip to the ER finally (which only got me temporary relief and a liter of normal saline, which if ER doctors knew anything about what this is like they would give someone in my position some Lactated ringers to replace some of the electrolytes and buy me a few days, but thats besides the point) they confirmed it, hyperemesis gravidarium. Which is basically just super super super bad morning sickness.

I just don't understand, I was sick with my first, and with another pregnancy I lost at 12 weeks, but I was never this bad, not even near this bad. I haven't gotten out of bed for 5 days, I would be going crazy but I feel too crappy to even go crazy if that makes sense. They have given me zofran and reglan pills, but neither help for much more than an hour or two here or there, and i end up throwing up whatever i managed to eat or drink during that brief time once it wears off.

Has anyone ever gone through this with this or any other pregnancies? If so, please tell me you have a secret trick or recipe or something I can try. I am so desperate at this point. My son has been such a trooper, laying in bed with me watching movies for days, I feel like such a crappy mom.

Thanks for reading, sorry for the book. I feel a bit better since my mom is out of the country and I have no one to talk to right now.

That sounds horrible!! Mine has been bad but not that bad. I definitely think its time you take some medication or you could end up severely dehydrated and even worse off. Hope it gets better soon!!

My mom is a nurse. Ask your OB or primary doc about a PICC line. They'll get you set up with saline and you can keep yourself hydrated.

I'm so sorry, hope you start feeling better soon. I would second the zofran and maybe try some unisom too.

Oh no, Im so sorry.
A woman in my sons DDC had hypermesis and it was the worst. Hope you feel better soon, and I agree about the PICC line.

You may need to talk to your doctor about getting a PICC line and possibly some IV Zofran. I've hear Zofran drips work wonders for it.

my first two pregnancies were just like that...ditto the suggestion on upping the level of Zofran. Most docs (including the ER ones) start you at 4mg but they can raise you to 8mg still in pill form (and if that still doesn't prevent vomiting there are pumps that can be used). I found it VERY important to always stay on a strict schedule with the meds...if I even missed by 15 mins i'd be very sick for hours before next one fully kicked in. I used Phenergan only at night - it wasn't as good as the Zofran, but does help you sleep. My OB wanted to add Reglan into the mix, but I declined b/c it got to where I could manage on the Zofran/Phenergan combo so i'm not sure whether there are different doses you can take with that one.

I found little, outside of the meds, that helped me keep anything down. I did find putting fresh lemon into water helpful for keeping it down, but food was mostly out. Some people have had success with ginger - I tried, it didn't work for me, but maybe it'll work for you.

I hope you're feeling better soon - I know exactly how miserable you are and I'm really sorry to see anyone suffer through HG. Make sure if you begin to show signs of dehydration you go immediately to ER for IVs. (((((HUGS)))))

All three of my pregnancies were like this. I saw this and had to a swer. I was really close to getting a zofran pump with my first but I managed to get to 16 weeks with my first using oral and ODT HIGH amounts of zofran. Eat while the med is peaking drink sips of Gatorade while you can. Go slow with everything. This pregnancy and summer really has been a bummer. I have a nine month old and a 3.5 year old. Thankfully I have been through this before and learned how to stay on top my Meds. It sucks bad. Bad. But your kid will not resent you. You have to tell yourself that your doing what you have to do to survive. Extra tv and rest will not hurt anyone. Hugs. Btdt now three times and it sucks. Since I hit 11 weeks it's calming down a bit!

I agree with the Zofran suggestion. Its the only way I am able to work every day and handle my other monsters.

I am on my laptop now so I can answer a bit more throughly.

I would really try YOUR BEST to get your oral meds handled before you are thrown on a pump or PICC liine. It can very well cause serious infections and such. I am RN and although it is important to correct dehydration in pregnancy try your best to exhaust your resources first. I am so sorryyou are going through this.

Also, on TOP of taking Zofran 3 times a day. Before bed I take a unisom and B6. Its the only way I sleep without yaking.

I am so sorry!

You can try a hazel wood necklace. Go to InspiredByFinn.com. While you're there you can pick up an amber necklace for the baby. . I read somewhere that eating a handful of beans frequently helps, too. I was really sick with my son and lived on Preggie Pops!

Bitter drinks like cranberry juice stay down easier for me vs. straight water. Try that!
