I'll try to keep this short! I called the nurse yesterday because I kept having pain and cramps on my left side only. With my history of ectopic pg, they wanted me to come in. I had blood work and an ultrasound. The good news is the sac is in the uterus, not in the tube. The weird news is I'm only measuring 4 weeks 5 days (I calculated me to be 5 weeks 5 days). The bloodwork was right on for 4 weeks 5 days also. It was 5,000 something. The tech was great and said everything looks great. Obviously we didn't see an embryo or hb, but even at 5 weeks 5 days it would be hard to hear a hb.

But I KNOW my dates are not wrong. I know when I ovulated. I got a definite BFP on 12 dpo. So, if I'm only 4 weeks 5 days then I would have got that BFP at 5 dpo- can't be.

So, either the ultrasound measurements are off, baby is just growing at it's own rate, or it's not growing right at all.

I go back tomorrow to make sure my levels are doubling correctly. Then I have my next u/s on August 10th.

Anyone experience something like this? Good news or bad, I want to hear it.

That does sound odd, but if your OB isn't worried try not to, definitely follow up asap if anything weird is happening.

Yeah sounds like your OB isn't worried and I've heard that it can just take a little longer for babies to catch up sometimes. If he's not worried, hopefully everything is fine. I know that's a scary feeling though!!

I ALWAYS measure a week off at least. I had a U/S yesterday, and according to when I am due, I got my BFP when I was not even 3 weeks pregnant. Um okay. If you have irregular cycles, it is pretty common, and they don't really know when you ovulate/conceive. My babies always measure small though, and have been perfectly fine and healthy

I did have something like this where I thought I was a week later than I was and U/S showed baby only at 5w6d rather than 6w6d. That one ended in a miscarriage at 10w4d. I don't want to get you worried, that was just what happened with me. Sometimes babies just grow at their own rate and will catch up later on.

Babies grow at different rates. I wouldn't be worried.

I'm mentally preparing for this to be over. I know my dates, there is NO way I'm a week behind what I think I am. I had ALL the ovulation signs, and none a week later.

This also explains my lack of pg symptoms. I've been thru this all twice already and this time is different.

If things have stopped developing, won't my HCG numbers reflect that? I go back tomorrow for the draw and should know by afternoon.

I just want to know either way, this waiting is messing with my mind!

I would feel the same way if they told me I was a week behind what I was because I am 100% sure of my dates and when I ovulated as well. I haven't been for an u/s yet myself but really am hoping this is just your babe taking their time and nothing else. Keep yourself busy sweetie and let us know how it goes. I'm sure everything will be ok!!

The nurse called me today with my offical numbers from yesterday...and now I forgot! But they were something like 5828, which she said is great and the us looked good too. But she's going off of my dates being 4 weeks 5 days.

I talked to her for awhile and she said if my numbers look good tomorrow I can ask for another u/s in one week to check for developmental progress. I think I will do that. I need to know what's going on and I don't think I can wait 2-1/2 more weeks.

If I see a hb I will feel so much better about everything.

Thanks everyone for your replies!

HUGS...dates can be off, and even if you're off by few days the u/s can also be off by a few days and suddenly you're a week off. I think your hcg draw will help you figure out what's going on...

My own experience with measuring a week behind ended badly HOWEVER i had a lot of other issues going on including constant bleeding for weeks & hcg levels rising but not doubling (not even close) properly. If you're not experiencing any other problems, i will keep my fingers crossed that you're just off a bit date wise and by your next u/s everything will be fine w/a hb too!

That was my same problem, I was exactly a week off too, but we finally saw the baby and the heart beating, some babies just grow a little slower.

I'm going through the same thing right now too. My u/s last week looked like 5 1/2-6 weeks along when I expected 7 weeks, 8 if you went of LMP (which would have been completely unreliable). I go back today for a repeat u/s to make sure there is a baby with a hb. With my daughter she measured about a week behind at 7 weeks but was pretty much caught up by 9 weeks.

Those measurements are not 100 percent accurate. Wait til next u/s and see. But glad that all looks well. Did they say anything about the cramps on the 1 side?

Crown to rump measurements this early off even by a millimeter or two can throw your dates off.

AND 5828 falls into a HUGE range. They're being goofy, you're likely fine and dandy.

Here's the chart JM has:

UPDATE 7-25-12:

I got my 2nd HCG numbers back and they were 10,610 (my first being 5828). The nurse said they like to see them increase by at least 60% and they have. That's good news.

I'm still confused because the u/s on Monday dated me at 4 weeks 5 days, so today I would be 5 weeks exactly. If you look at HCG charts, that's off the charts for 5 weeks. So, I still think I'm actually 6 weeks today and the measurements on the u/s were wrong.

I'm going to schedule another u/s for next week to check on growth progress. What a waiting game, but the news is promising so far.

Thank you all again for the replies- it means a lot!

i think you just got a poor measurement on that 1st u/s honestly (easy to do early on)...your doubling rate looks perfect and maybe it'll turn out to be sized in between their guess & yours for due date.

That's what I'm thinking. Plus, and I don't know if this matters, but I'm pretty petite to begin with, so maybe everything is a little smaller!

Glad to hear your numbers were so good! Sounds like its just a measurement issue. Crossing my fingers for great news next week!
